Tata Motors is gearing up to expand its portfolio with the Curvv lineup, which will be offered in both ICE-powered and EV versions. After being spotted and teased multiple times, the highly anticipated SUV-coupe is set to be unveiled tomorrow. With its launch expected very soon, here are 5 things you need to know about the Curvv and Curvv EV.
Setting it apart from other cars in its segment, the Curvv will feature a distinctive SUV-coupe body style. A previous showcase at the 2023 Bharat Mobility Show revealed its design, which takes inspiration from other new Tata models. It features connected LED DRLs similar to those seen on the Harrier, along with grille inserts and air dams that echo its design.
The Curvv also boasts flush door handles, a first for a Tata, while at the rear, it gets a connected LED tail light setup. Here, its EV version is expected to feature welcome and goodbye functions similar to those seen on the Nexon EV.
The Curvv EV will also sport other EV-specific styling, possibly closed-off front grille, slightly tweaked bumpers, and differently designed alloy wheels.
The Curvv's cabin is expected to offer an extensive list of features. Earlier spy shots showcased a dashboard layout, AC vents, and door pads similar to those seen in the Nexon. The centre console will feature a rotary dial selector for drive modes. It will also boast a chunky four-spoke steering wheel adorned with the illuminated Tata logo, just like the bigger Tata SUVs such as the Harrier and Safari. The Curvv is also expected to be offered with various interior colour schemes.
The Curvv And Curvv EV are expected to be equipped with features such as a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control system, cruise control, and a panoramic sunroof.
On the safety front, both models are expected to include six airbags as standard across all variants, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, hill hold and hill start assist, front and rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system and ADAS.
The Curvv EV is also expected to include vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, which allows the vehicle to function as a portable power source, capable of charging appliances and even other EVs when necessary.
The ICE-powered Curvv is expected to be offered with two powertrain options: first, a new 1.2-litre T-GDI turbo petrol engine that will deliver 125 PS/225 Nm. Second, a 1.5-litre diesel unit, sourced from the Nexon, producing 115 PS/260 Nm. Both engines will come paired with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, with an option for an automatic transmission. The petrol variants will be equipped with a dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the type of automatic transmission for the diesel engine is yet to be confirmed.
Like the ICE-powered model, the Curvv EV is also expected to be offered with multiple battery pack options, with a claimed range of up to 500 km. It should get fast charging capabilities of atleast 50kW DC charging.
Tata Motors will launch the Curvv EV first, followed by the ICE-powered Curvv. The Curvv EV is expected to start from Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), rivalling the likes of MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, BYD Atto 3, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
Meanwhile, the ICE-powered Curvv, will likely start from around Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom), and will lock horns with the upcoming Citroen Basalt while serving an SUV-coupe alternative to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Honda Elevate, and the Skoda Kushaq.
