The Tata Curvv ICE has been launched and it is positioned in the popular compact SUV space. It boasts a unique SUV-coupe design and a long list of premium features which make it very desirable and appealing to the Indian buyer. In this article, we will be comparing it with its sibling, the Tata Nexon, which is one of the top-selling SUVs in India and a well-rounded package. Let’s see if the smaller Tata SUV can give a tough fight to the newly launched Curvv, which sits in a segment above.

Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17.69 lakh |
Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 15.8 lakh |

As we can see, right from the base variant to the top-spec variant, there is a difference of around Rs 2 lakh between both these SUVs. The Tata Curvv surely comes at a premium, but that difference is not a lot. Let’s find out if the premium is justified and worth paying:
Both Curvv and Nexon sport modern design elements like LED headlamps, LED DRLs and LED tail lamps, but the Curvv also gets connected DRLs which is not present on the Nexon. However, the main attraction is the unique sloping roofline on the Curvv which gives it a sporty look. Let’s take a look at their dimensions:

Boot Space |

382 litres |
+ 118 litres |
Clearly, the Curvv is longer and also sits on a longer wheelbase, however, the difference in the width and height is not that substantial. But where things really go in the Curvv’s favor is the boot space, which is 118 litres larger than the Nexon. So, if long trips are your priority, then you can consider the Curvv, but if you are someone who mainly uses the car for city commutes then you won’t feel the need for the extra boot space in the Nexon.

There are many similarities and dissimilarities between the two Tatas. Both share the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine, but the Curvv additionally gets a new and more potent 1.2-litre TGDi (direct injection) turbo-petrol which produces the most power out of all engine options.
The Curvv only gets a standard 6-speed manual, while the Nexon also gets a 5-speed unit with the petrol engine. Automatic options on the Curvv include a 7-speed DCT only, while the Nexon comes with both 7-speed DCT and 6-speed AMT for the petrol and a 6-speed AMT only for the diesel.
The Tata Curvv and Nexon are both SUVs that are catered for the masses and are vehicles that you won’t go wrong with. Both are well-equipped SUVs and have some commonalities including certain design elements, features, and engine options.
The Curvv is the new hot launch with larger dimensions and a more attractive design language, but design is subjective and some might prefer the Nexon’s more conventional design. Both SUVs are loaded to the brim, but the Curvv gets a bunch of extra features for the additional cost which make it more desirable. In terms of powertrain, both get similar powertrains, but the Curvv also gets a more powerful petrol engine which can be considered by the petrolheads who want more performance.
We think that the premium for the Curvv is justified and worth paying, as it gets you a bigger SUV which not only has a standout design, but also comes with better equipment and a more powerful powertrain. However, you should go for it only if you are looking for a bigger car and if the extra Rs 2 lakh won’t put a dent in your pocket. Because, the Nexon is also a great option and can be considered if you want a smaller SUV which is also more pocket friendly.
Which SUV would you pick if you had to? Let us know in the comments.
