Fancy an SUV-coupe? Pick the Curvv; but if a butch SUV suits your tastes, then the Sierra is for you

  • Tata Motors is prepping two Hyundai Creta rivals: Curvv and Sierra.
  • Curvv EV will break cover in 2024, followed by its ICE version.
  • Production-spec Sierra to be unveiled in 2025.
  • Both SUVs will be based on the carmaker’s Sigma platform.
  • They will get electric and Tata’s T-GDI turbo-petrol powertrains.
  • Curvv to get 1.2-litre T-GDI engine, while Sierra could get 1.5-litre unit.

A segment Tata Motors has long been absent from is the compact SUV space, currently ruled by the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. The Harrier is there and, while it was initially launched with a tempting price tag, the SUV has become expensive over time and it has its own midsize SUV rivals now. However, down the road, we’ll not be seeing one, but two Creta rivals from Tata.

Any guesses on what these models would be? Well, it’s the upcoming Tata Curvv and Sierra, which will be launched in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Both SUVs will measure around the 4.4-metre mark and you will have two Tata SUVs to pick from the same segment. So, if you fancy a SUV-coupe, the Curvv is for you, while if you want a butch SUV, the Sierra it is!

At the Auto Expo 2023, Tata showed evolved versions of both concepts with more production-ready design touches. In fact, the Sierra EV’s design showcased at this year’s event has been locked for production, while Tata gave a glimpse of how the ICE-powered Curvv will look in a near-production avatar. You can take a closer look at both models by clicking the links below:

Both SUVs will be based on Tata’s Sigma platform and they will have two powertrain options: Electric and (Tata’s new) T-GDI turbo-petrol. One difference will be the fact that the Curvv will get Tata’s 1.2-litre T-GDI petrol engine, while the Sierra is expected to get the larger 1.5-litre unit. The Tata Curvv will first break cover as an EV in 2024, followed by its ICE version. As for the Sierra, it’s still a mystery which powertrain it’ll get initially. Both SUVs will lock horns with compact SUVs such as Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun and the like.
