Tata Motors is set to launch the long-range variant of the Nexon EV, called the Nexon EV Max, on April 11. As the name suggests, it gets an updated powertrain and a bigger battery pack which offers a longer range compared to the current model. The updates are not limited to the power house, as it also gets new feature additions over the standard model.
Here are the top five things you can expect from the upcoming EV:
The Nexon EV Max is expected to pack a more powerful, 136PS electric motor which will likely be powered by a 40kWh battery pack. These updates will correspond to an increase in range over the 312km ARAI-claimed range of the standard model which packs a 30.2kWh battery pack along with a 129PS electric motor.
The latest teaser claims that the EV can travel from Mumbai to Pune and back on a single charge. Since the round trip is around 300km (by road of course), we expect the Nexon EV Max to have an ARAI-claimed range of around 400km.
The Nexon EV Max should be compatible with fast charging and is also expected to feature adjustable regenerative-braking which will charge-up the battery during deceleration.
Although the dashboard remains largely unchanged, previous teasers have hinted at an illuminated rotary gear selector with a new ‘Park’ mode. Housed behind it are the switches for the electronic parking brake (EPB) and auto-hold function. Speaking of which, this brings us to the next point.
Features such as ventilated front seats, auto-dimming IRVM, cruise control and an air-purifier are likely to be carried over from the ICE-powered model which also features a 7-inch infotainment system, sunroof, automatic climate control and a semi-digital instrument cluster.
On the safety front, the standard model features dual front airbags, cornering stability control and ISOFIX child anchorages, while the long-range derivative is also expected to pack hill descent control and electronic parking brake.
Fun Fact: The addition of cruise control is likely to extend the EV’s range as less throttle modulation corresponds to a smoother drive on open roads.
Cosmetic changes on the Nexon EV Max are minimal, as it only gets revised 5-spoke alloy wheels and rear disc brakes. Otherwise, the car seems to be identical to the standard compact SUV, and it even seems set to get an all-black Dark Edition.
The Nexon EV Max will be sold alongside the standard Nexon EV and is likely to be priced at a premium over the regular model which retails from Rs 14.79 lakh to Rs 17.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will continue to lock horns with the likes of the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
