Tata Nexon EV likely to get larger battery and motor.
Latest test mule seen with rear disc brakes and alloy wheels.
Currently, Nexon EV has an ARAI-claimed range of 312km.
We wish Tata gives it ESP and side and curtain airbags as well.
It seems like Tata Motors is working on a couple of upgrades to the Nexon EV’s drivetrain and mechanicals. Test mules have been spotted quite frequently in the past few months, and the latest spy pictures show the presence of rear disc brakes (for better stopping power) and new alloy wheels.

With this, we suspect that Tata is likely working on an updated Nexon EV with probably a larger battery pack and more power. A Delhi RTO document hinted that the SUV could get a 136PS electric motor, an increase of 7PS over the current car. Also, plenty of reports suggest that the battery pack could be upgraded to a larger 40kWh (+10kWh) unit.

Both these upgrades should contribute to the Nexon EV as a much better all arounder and more long distance capable. At the moment, the SUV has an ARAI-claimed 312km of range, and in the real world, it should be able to do anywhere between 200km and 250km. The larger battery could result in a real world range of well over 300km.

Apart from that, we also wish Tata adds traction control, a much required feature, in the Nexon EV. The open differential and instantaneous torque means the wheels with less grip don’t require much effort to slip and loose grip. Recent safety mandates could also see the SUV getting additional airbags.
At present, the Nexon EV is priced from Rs 14.29 lakh (ex-showroom) and we suspect this updated model to go on sale side-by-side at a premium. These upgrades do make it a much more worthy alternative against the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV. In related news, MG is also preparing a Tata Nexon EV rival that is slated to go on sale in 2023.
