The Nexon has bagged a five star rating for both adult and child protection, this time in Global NCAP’s more stricter norms

Following the footsteps of the Harrier and Safari facelift, the Nexon facelift has yet again scored a full five star safety rating. These scores have been gained on the newer, more stringent crash test norms, so yes, it’s definitely safer than the pre-facelift model, which was tested using the older norms. Also, unlike before, the Nexon now gets a five star rating for the child protection rating as well. Here’s a deep dive into its crash test score.

Adult protection

The Nexon facelift has scored a full five star rating for adult protection with a score of 32.22 out of 34. The driver’s and passenger’s head, neck and knee showed good protection, while the chest for both occupants received adequate protection rating in the frontal impact test.

The tibias for the driver and passenger received adequate and good protection ratings, respectively.  The footwell and bodyshell area was rated as stable and was deemed as capable of withstanding further loading.

Side impact test revealed a good protection rating for all parts, except for the chest which received an adequate protection rating. In the side pole impact test however, a good protecting rating was given to the head and pelvis, but the chest and abdomen received marginal and adequate protection ratings, respectively.

With a score of 44.52 out of 49, the Nexon now gets a full five star rating for the child protection section as well.

The seats for both the 18-month and 3-year old were installed facing rearwards and were able to fully prevent any exposure to the head during the frontal impact test. They also offered full protection in the side impact test.

GNCAP also noted that all seats get 3-point seatbelts and the option to disconnect the passenger airbag for a safe installation of the rearward facing child seats was also appreciated. They also highlighted that the electronic stability program is offered as standard and stated that its performance was acceptable according to their latest requirements.
