There’s more good news about the new Tata Sierra concept unveiled at Auto Expo 2023. According to Tata's Head of Global Design, Martin Uhlarik, the design of the forthcoming SUV has been finalised, so the production-spec Sierra will closely resemble the SUV you see in these pictures.

Tata says the Sierra will go on sale in 2025, and its footprint, which is around 4.4 metres long, puts it in the same segment as the Hyundai Creta, sitting below the Harrier. Here’s all that we know about the new Tata Sierra’s design.

Exterior design locked

The Sierra unveiled at Auto Expo 2023 looks quite different from the concept SUV Tata revealed back in 2020. For one, it's larger than before and the overall design is a lot cleaner and slightly toned-down and sober compared to the first Sierra concept. In addition, the earlier Sierra concept was a two-door SUV with curved rear windows that extended all the way up to the roof, similar to the OG Sierra from the 1990s. In the new concept, there are gloss black trim elements at the top, imitating the Sierra's original rear fixed glass design, with a panoramic sunroof instead of the fixed glass roof. Of course, it also gets five doors for practicality.

However, we aren’t even complaining! In fact, we are glad the iconic Sierra is making a comeback in a more modern iteration. It has a clean front-end design with a sharp full-width LED DRL that looks brilliant.

At the rear, the SUV has an upright tailgate and slim connected LED taillights. Lower down, it has a chunky rear bumper and a hefty faux skidplate.

The SUV has a 4.4-metre length, a tad longer than the Hyundai Creta, which measures around 4.3 metres. This should put it in the same league as other SUVs in the compact SUV segment.

Dashboard layout and design finalised

Inside, the SUV’s dashboard has a minimalist design with a dual-tone colour scheme. There are concept-like elements such as the commodious, airline-like seats and the sheer absence of buttons and dials, which are showcased by screens in the concept.

The production version is likely to stick to physical HVAC controls and buttons to control different functions in the SUV. Expect the floating touchscreen, ambient lighting and layered dashboard design to be present in the production Sierra as well. The overall design looks minimalist and upmarket.

It will be offered with a panoramic sunroof and should be equipped with segment-par features we’ve seen in the Tata Harrier, such as ventilated front seats, a premium sound system, connected car tech and up to six airbags. Also, the Sierra should also boast ADAS, which will premiere in the Harrier and Safari soon.

Apart from the aforementioned Creta, the Tata Sierra will compete with the Kia Seltos, MG Astor and Tata’s own Curvv which will go on sale ahead of the Sierra.
