Update (26 November, 2024): Recently, a post went viral on Instagram, which showcased three cars, including the upcoming Sierra. The photo was taken in Oxfordshire, England, and was posted on the social media app by Martin Uhlarik, Global Design Head of Tata Motors. What appeared to be a meet up, called Pistons & Pretzels, of car enthusiasts, which included several rare automobiles, had the Safari, Nexon, and Sierra. This fuelled speculation claiming that the showcased Sierra is a production-spec version. However, it is still very much in its concept form. Since Tata Motors Design Tech Centre is in the United Kingdom, the brand seems to have participated in the car meet up with its cars.

In the recent investors meet, Tata Motors revealed its launch timeline of the Sierra ICE and EV. Both models are slated for launch by the end of 2025, with the EV set to arrive before the ICE version. However, we expect the automaker to showcase their production-ready versions in the third quarter of 2025, likely around the festive season. Here is what we can expect from the upcoming Tata Sierra.

Design

Tata Sierra

First showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 as a concept and again at the Auto Expo 2023, the Sierra concept is reminiscent of the design inspired by the original Sierra. Design cues from Tata’s current EV concepts, including the Harrier EV, are expected to influence the Sierra, featuring elements such as a full length LED light bars at the front and rear, as well as flush door handles. However, the signature rectangular side window design from the original Sierra is likely to be retained. While the Sierra is still in concept form, it would be interesting to see how much of the original design carries over to the production model.

Interior

Tata Sierra

Though most details about its interior remain scarce at the moment, we expect the production-spec Sierra to feature an upmarket cabin layout with a few styling cues harking back to the original 90s model. As seen in the concept model at the Auto Expo, the production-ready Sierra could also boast a design layout similar to the Harrier and Safari but with minimalist design for the dashboard and centre console.

Moreover, it will likely sport different seating layouts, such as four- and five seats. The four-seat version is expected to feature ventilated seats for the rear passengers like the Safari. The ICE and EV may also differ in terms of cabin themes or upholstery colour.

Features

Moreover, Tata is likely to bestow the Sierra with displays similar to the on-sale models, such as a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, powered and ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, and a hi-fi sound system. Other features likely to be offered include connected car tech, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multiple driving modes, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. The EV could also get the Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) features like the Nexon and Curvv EV.

Safety

The Sierra is also expected to come loaded with a host of modern-day safety equipment, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Other safety equipment could include multiple airbags, ESP, hill hold assist, downhill control, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, driver attention warning, rear-wheel discs, and multi-collision braking.

Powertrain

Tata is likely to equip the ICE Sierra with multiple engine options, including petrol and diesel. There is likely to be a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that debuted at the Auto Expo. A diesel powertrain should also be on the cards, likely to be borrowed from the Harrier and Safari.

The Sierra EV, on the other hand, is expected to get a 45kWh and 55kWh battery packs with a claimed range of up to 550. There may be an option for a larger battery pack. That said, the Sierra should be available with a single motor setup with a varying power output depending on the battery size it is paired with. It should support DC fast charging as well.

Tata could price the Sierra EV from Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). The Sierra does not have any direct competition as of now.
