The carmaker recently made the sunroof more accessible in the Altroz and there’s more coming up with the Punch CNG and EV

  • Tata to focus on more powertrains and trims for select offerings.
  • It recently launched the Altroz XM (S), making the sunroof more accessible.
  • Punch to get CNG and EV versions down the line.
  • 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engines in the pipeline.
  • Nexon, Safari, and Harrier to be heavily revised.

Tata Motors is currently on a high, getting ever closer to that second spot in terms of overall monthly sales and market share. This is thanks to a handful of its popular models such as the Punch, Nexon, Altroz, along with its electric offerings. The Indian marque aims to push further, with plans to introduce new trims and powertrains to sustain demand for select models.

Commenting on the news, Shailesh Chandra, managing director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said in the business update meeting that, “We also have launches planned in the coming months, adding additional trims. Because we have been watching every segment which are the price points where the velocity of demand is more. And therefore, we have been coming up with creative trims to really help us grow our volumes and few of them are going to come this quarter.”

In keeping with Chandra’s word, Tata recently launched the Altroz XM and XM (S) trims, which made the sunroof more accessible for buyers. Apart from that, the carmaker is gearing up to launch the Tata Punch CNG, which gets the carmaker’s innovative twin-cylinder technology as well as introducing new features such as a sunroof.

Not only that. Tata’s upcoming new models will debut the carmaker’s new T-GDI turbo-petrol engines. The revised Nexon will be plonked with the 1.2-litre unit, probably paired with the DCT. On the other hand, we have the updated Safari and Harrier, which will get the larger 1.5-litre T-GDI petrol engine, which could also get a DCT.

The slew of new powertrains does not stop there. The heavily revised Harrier will also get an electric version, the concept version of which was displayed at Auto Expo 2023. It will get a dual motor setup driving all four wheels,  with a claimed real world range of around 400km. And if you want something smaller than even the Nexon EV, there’s the Punch EV that’s brewing up.

So there’s no doubt that Tata Motors does have quite a portfolio lined up ahead in the short term without necessarily introducing all-new nameplates and shapes. Summing up, we have the Punch CNG as well as heavily revised 2024 Nexon, Safari and Harrier. And on the EV front, we have the Punch EV and Harrier EV. Clearly, exciting times to look forward to from the Indian marque.
