CNG variants are expected to command a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the corresponding petrol variants.
Both will get two small 30-litre CNG cylinders, which leave more space in the boot.
To get 77PS 1.2-litre petrol-CNG engine that should deliver over 26km/kg.
To feature a touchscreen system, up to six airbags, and an electric sunroof.
Tata is set to add two more CNG cars to its lineup with the Altroz and Punch. The carmaker has confirmed that both CNG models will go on sale in the first half of financial year 2023-24 (FY24), so possibly around September-October right before the onset of the festive season.
Tata showcased the Altroz and Punch CNG at the Auto Expo 2023, with the revolutionary dual-cylinder setup. Instead of a huge 60-litre tank, these models will get two small 30-litre tanks which will enable a boot space of over 200 litres, compared to the petrol variants’ 350 litres. All the boot capacity issues that are faced in other CNG cars will be resolved with this setup.
Both cars will get the same 1.2-litre petrol-CNG engine. It will deliver up to 77PS and 97Nm while running on CNG and come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. We’re expecting both cars to offer a fuel economy of over 26km/kg.

The CNG variants will feature a seven-inch touchscreen system, cruise control, push button start-stop, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and electric sunroof. The latter three features will be exclusive to the Altroz CNG. Safety will be covered by up to six airbags and a rear camera.

We’re expecting both the CNG variants to command a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the corresponding petrol variants. The Altroz currently retails from Rs 6.45 lakh to Rs 10.40 lakh and its CNG variants will face the heat from Maruti Baleno and Toyota Glanza CNG. As for the Punch, it’s prices range from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9.47 lakh (ex-showroom prices) and doesn’t have any direct CNG-powered competitor.
