Tata Curvv first broke cover as a concept EV in April 2022.
The Curvv is based on the Gen 2 platform; ICE version will get petrol and diesel powertrains.
ICE -powered Curvv will slot above the Nexon, competing in the Hyundai Creta’s segment.
Near-production version could be seen toward the end of 2023.
Prices expected to start below Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Tata Curvv made its debut last year in April 2022 as a concept electric vehicle. Now, its ICE version has made a appearance at Auto Expo 2023, where it’ll be displayed for the duration of the event. This variant of the Curvv will get petrol and diesel powertrains instead of an all-electric drivetrain. It’ll be launched in 2024 as a rival to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor.
On the outside, the ICE Curvv looks nothing like any Tata SUV currently on sale. Modelled on the ‘Less is More’ design language, the Curvv has a clean, minimalist design with a full-width DRL at the amply creased front-end. While the EV has a grille-less nose, the ICE model gets a neat upper grille design in addition to a larger air dam at the base of the front bumper.
The triangular LED headlight elements seem to be an evolution of the split headlights seen on the Harrier, Safari and Punch SUVs. In addition, the ICE version gets cool split-spoke alloy wheels instead of aero-style rims seen on the Curvv EV.
Viewed from the side, the ICE has a coupe-like roofline that slopes downward at the rear. A high window line, tall stance, flared wheel arches and massive alloy wheels with aero inserts tell us that the SUV DNA is intact. Interestingly, the Curvv also has frameless doors.

At the rear, the Curvv’s notchback tailgate features a cool roof spoiler and an LED brake light that wraps around the rear windshield. There’s also a full-width LED taillight and multiple vents in the rear bumper for cooling.
Inside, the Curvv ICE has a cleanly laid-out dashboard befitting of a concept vehicle. We might not see this brutal minimalism in the production version, but the floating touchscreen and free-standing digital driver’s display should filter down to the real-world EV. That said, we also wish the snazzy retro-style two-spoke steering wheel is here to stay.
There’s a full panoramic glass roof for an airy feel in the cabin (the production version could get a panoramic sunroof, instead). The overall cabin ambience is also improved by the blue-themed interior. The presence of conventional buttons and dials for the HVAC and other functions reassures us that Tata isn’t likely to make these functions less accessible by accommodating them in the touchscreen.
The Curvv ICE is underpinned by Tata’s Generation 2 platform which can support fully electric and petrol and diesel powertrains.
We can expect the ICE to get a good safety rating from NCAP, too, similar to its existing stablemates.
We reckon the production-spec 2024 ICE Tata Curvv will have a starting price below Rs 20 lakh, slotting above the Nexon in the carmaker's lineup. It’ll compete in the hotly contested compact SUV segment upon its launch in 2024. The Curvv EV will also go on sale next year, and we should see a near-production version of both vehicles towards the end of 2023.
