The Indian Car Of The Year (ICOTY) award is back for 2024, and it promises to be a thriller to say the least. The full list of all the contenders in their respective categories have been announced, alongside the jury list, which includes our own editor, Ameya Dandekar. Here are the three categories and their respective contenders:
2023 witnessed a bunch of new launches, spanning across various segments. This list includes the cars that the Jury thinks is a significant one and deserves a spot on this list that will potentially crown the Indian Car Of The Year.
Citroen C3 Aircross
Honda Elevate
Hyundai Exter
Hyundai Verna
Mahindra XUV400
Maruti Jimny
MG Comet
Toyota Innova Hycross
The premium side of the car segment also saw plenty of action this year from CKDs to completely imported units. BMW dominates the list with different body styles. And this list, for the first time ever, even features a Hyundai!
BMW 7 Series
BMW M2
BMW X1
Hyundai Ioniq 5
Lexus LX
Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Mercedes-Benz GLC
Volvo C40 Recharge
Green or electric cars are becoming more and more relevant. Sure, they are still some time away from being a bread and butter means of transport. But the accessibility narrative has really been pushed this year with new launches that broke the traditional norms, and even birthed a new segment!
BMW i7
BYD Atto 3
Citroen eC3
Hyundai Ioniq 5
Mahindra XUV400
Mercedes-Benz EQE
MG Comet
Volvo C40 Recharge
This award represents the best of all the new cars. It all comes down to the expertise of the jury members, which vote for a single decisive winner. The fair, and tamper-proof voting process includes criteria like price, fuel-efficiency, styling, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, technical innovation, value for money, and suitability for Indian driving conditions – the last one being a crucial factor while deciding the winner.

The winners for each category will be decided by the jury, which includes a host of automotive journalists and editors of major automotive publications and media outlets in the country. Zigwheels Editor Ameya Dandekar is also among the jurors. More details about the jury and the award itself can be found on the ICOTY website. Results will be announced on December 20, so stay tuned.
