The new 33 Stradale feeds on heavy nostalgia with a hark back to the OG Stradale, while being equally caring of the future

  • Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale makes a comeback in a modern avatar.

  • Limited to just 33 cars, it can be had with either an ICE or electric powertrain.

  • All cars are custom built under Alfa’s custom program, their first since 1969.

  • F1 driver Valtteri Bottas involved in tuning the dynamics for a blend of driving on track and on road.

  • 333kmph is the max possible speed, while 0-100kmph comes up in under 3 seconds.

  • All the 33 units are already called for.

Nostalgia is a strong emotion, especially for someone who’s got a hefty bank account with millions as spare change to spend on a car and wants it to stand out. Alfa’s modern rendition of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, each one tailored and customised under the ‘fuoriserie’ program, is exactly that! Limited to just 33 units, the 33 Stradale is a beautiful reimagination of the OG 1967 33 Stradale, which literally defined and set expectations for the brand.

Fun fact: The new 33 Stradale is the first “fuoriserie” (custom-built) Alfa Romeo car since 1969

It sticks true to its roots, but at the same time has an aim at what’s in store for the future. Nostalgic and dreamy at the same time. Only if we had those millions, but sadly, all those 33 units are already called for.

The styling similarities of the new 33 Stradale takes a page or two out of the original supercar’s design book. And considering that the OG is considered one of the most beautiful cars of all time, Alfa couldn't have gone wrong, and we can confirm, they haven’t.

Modernisation has hit the headlights hard, with complex elements residing on an oval base. The slender front flows seamlessly into the sides until the two large air intakes, which mark the beginning of the muscular rear. It is quite aggressive and rather busy as well. Angled elements define the rear, which looks like it is squinting at you, and maybe even a little bit mad for some reason.

But that has been done purposefully as Alfa Romeo says ‘the car embodies the “brutal” essence of the Stradale.’ The beauty of this sensual Alfa Romeo is undeniable, but we reckon pictures won’t actually do justice to the true sculpture of the car and that you’d really have to see it in-person to truly appreciate the beauty behind it.

The new 33 Stradale is, or rather, was available with either a 3-litre twin-turbo V6 or an all-electric drivetrain. The former has an output of over 620PS and sends its power to the rear wheels with the help of an eight-speed DCT gearbox. As for the latter, it belts out an output north of 750PS and a WLTP estimated range of around 450km. The blast from 0-100kmph for both the powertrains will be clocked under the three-second mark, while the top speed is rated at 333kmph.

It uses carbon fibre monocoque and aluminium H-frame for a rigid and lightweight body, while the tuning of the suspension has had suggestions from Alfa’s current F1 driver, Valtteri Bottas. Components like a double-arm suspension with active shock absorbers and standard front axle lift make sure the 33 Stradale will feel as at home on a racetrack as it will on public roads.

The cabin takes a minimalist approach as Alfa Romeo says, it didn’t want to distract the driver with unnecessary stuff. As a result, the dashboard flows seamlessly, unobstructed by any infotainment or passenger screens as  in many new modern cars. In fact, the three-spoke steering wheel is button-free as well. The telescopic instrument cluster looks crisp and beautiful even.

Alfa Romeo hasn’t tried to hide the fact that the cabin takes heavy inspiration from the cabin of an airplane and the same is evident in the way the central tunnel and buttons on roofline are laid out. The cabin itself was available in two configurations – Tributo and Alfa Corse – with the former being a homage to the OG Stradale and the latter taking a sportier route with extensive use of carbon fibre.

Alfa Romeo is yet to divulge the deets on the pricing of this limited run supercar, but given the exclusivity and attention to detail gone into making one, we won’t bet against it joining the million club. Alfa Romeos do have a track record for being on the expensive side, but clearly, people don’t mind paying for it. Only if we could too…
