The Geneva International Motor Show will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2024.
The Geneva International Motor Show – the godfather of all motor shows – is making a comeback since Covid plagued the world. The revival of the esteemed show, after a hiatus of around four years, is taking it to Qatar for the first time ever, before the show celebrates its 100th anniversary in Geneva in 2024. Until now, it was confined to the borders of the Geneva city in Switzerland, and this event in Qatar promises to be a first-of-its-kind event concept and that isn’t without reason.
First up, the dates for the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) are October 5 to 14, intentionally coinciding with the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix weekend, scheduled from October 6 to 8. This combo will make it hugely convenient for motorsports and car fans, who will be able to experience both the events without having to spend on tickets and hotels for different places.
The main event will be hosted in the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) with four separate dedicated venues for various experiences – because this is more than just an auto show or an ‘immersive festival experience’ as they (the organisers) are calling it. And fair play to them, because various other experiences apart from the Formula 1 race weekend, like an off-road adventure at Sealine Desert, rides and drives at the Losail International Circuit, and the chance to visit a ‘best of the best’ gallery of classic automobiles are also on the roster.

All of that, combined with the already immaculate car culture of the Middle East, is bound to offer a one-of-a-kind experience. And if that too doesn’t excite you, then let this video tweak the narrative (and your dopamine levels):

The show will kick off with an exclusive opening ceremony and gala dinner on October 5, followed by a dedicated media day on October 6, before the gates finally open to the public from October 7 to 14.
Future Planning
While the 2023 GIMS Qatar event has been planned and preparations are in full flow, the foundations for the next event, which will be hosted at the original location in Geneva, have already been laid down. It is scheduled to run from February 26 to March 3, 2024, marking the 100th anniversary of the prestigious motor show. To commemorate a century of anniversaries, the event will focus equally on its past, shine a light on the transformation of mobility as we know it today, and also offer a peek into its future.
