Launch scheduled for festive season; prices to be similar to Ertiga’s.
Another Maruti Suzuki car has now been put under the knife for rebadging work, this time the Ertiga. It has now been unveiled as the Toyota Rumion, and will be available with both petrol and CNG powertrain options in India. Toyota will offer the MPV in three broad variants: S, G, and V.
Let’s first decode the design differences between the Maruti and Toyota MPVs. As with most shared Maruti-Toyota models, the Rumion also gets only small tweaks to its exteriors. The only major revision is the new Toyota Innova Hycross-like grille, redesigned bumper and tweaked fog lamp housings.
Save for the redesigned alloy wheels, there is no change to the sides of the MPV. At the back, the Toyota Rumion’s only distinctive feature over its donor vehicle is the chrome element connecting the LED taillights and, obviously, the badging. The Rumion will be available in five exterior paint options: Spunky Blue, Rustic Brown, Iconic Grey, Cafe White and Entycing Silver.
Inside, the Rumion has a near-identical design to the Maruti Ertiga, with a faux wooden insert in the dashboard and a slight alteration to the hue. It gets the same beige fabric upholstery as the car it’s based on, and retains the 7-seater configuration as well.
The Toyota Rumion’s equipment list is a carbon copy of that of the Maruti Ertiga. Headlining features include a 7-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, a 4-speaker sound system with two tweeters, and push-button start/stop.
Passenger safety is taken care of by up to four airbags, electronic stability programme (ESP), a reversing camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages for the second row.
Toyota has provided the Rumion with the same 1.5-litre petrol engine (103PS/137Nm) with both 5-speed MT and 6-speed AT options. It also comes with an optional CNG powertrain producing 88PS/121.5Nm with the manual gearbox. Its claimed mileage figures are as follows: 20.11kmpl (AT), 20.51kmpl (MT), and 26.11km/kg (CNG).
The carmaker will launch the Rumion during the festive season in India. It is expected to be priced in the same ballpark as the Maruti Ertiga, which retails between Rs 8.64 lakh and Rs 13.08 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Apart from the Ertiga, its rivals will include the Kia Carens and Mahindra Marazzo, and it will also serve as an affordable alternative to the Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto.
