You’ve seen it in renders, spy shots, and even teasers! But the wait is finally over. Maruti Suzuki has finally taken the wraps off the much awaited Jimny five-door SUV, whose global debut happened in India at Auto Expo. It’s basically the elongated version of the three-door SUV with an extra set of doors, boosting the practicality of the off-roader. The marque is expected to announce prices of the Jimny by mid 2023. Pre-launch bookings commence from today onwards.
Starting with the styling, the Jimny five-door’s fascia, with the round headlamps and slatted grille, looks similar to the standard model. It’s on the side where the change is obvious, thanks to the extra length and additional doors. Even the wheel design and the rear-end is exactly the same as the standard model, which ain’t a bad thing.
Sizewise, the Jimny five-door measures 3985mm long, 1645mm wide, 1720mm tall, and has 2590mm wheelbase. Here’s a quick comparison of its dimensions with the smaller three-door model:

Inside, the Jimny gets a fairly ergonomically laid dashboard with chunky controls for important functions such as climate control and power window switches. The layout is largely similar to what you find in the smaller three-door model. However, there's one change: India-spec model gets a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system in place of the smaller 7-inch unit.
Obviously, the focus here is on the middle row, which gets an extra set of doors. This boasts the practicality of the SUV as ingress and egress is much easier. Plus, space at the rear is much better than the smaller model, thanks to the longer wheelbase.

In terms of features, the Jimny five-door gets all the bases covered with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, and a multi-info display. Passenger safety is taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, and electronic stability control.
The Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine developing 104PS and 134Nm. This engine can be paired with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. It’ll be offered with either a rear-wheel or four-wheel drivetrain. The latter gets a low range gearbox for better offroading prowess.
The Jimny five-door, when launched, will be rivalling the upcoming Force Gurkha five-door and Mahindra Thar five-door. We expect prices to range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
