The 2023 Hyundai Verna is the latest sedan to enter the market and apart from its polarising looks and the potent turbo-petrol powertrain, it brings a lot of tech and features on board, some of which are segment first.
And in the day and age where every carmaker is taking the digital route with more touch-based controls, Hyundai is sticking to the tried and tested, old school formula of using shortcut dials and knobs. But, there’s a twist and we love it. Why, though? You ask? Here’s why:
As the touchscreen systems in vehicles keep on advancing, they seem to take a step backward in terms of their ease of use due to the lack of physical buttons. The myriad of options and functions make it seemingly impossible to access elementary controls, which shouldn’t require you to scroll through a bunch of menus, the biggest example being the simplest of things: HVAC functions.

Hyundai has addressed this issue with its new HVAC console, which sits just below the touchscreen system and even doubles up as shortcut controls for the infotainment system with the press of a button. Yes! This console serves a dual purpose, thanks to a switch on its top right corner. It also gives a minimalist look to the cabin, while being purposeful.
Tap the button, and the console basically doubles up as shortcut controls for the infotainment. You won’t have to make your way through a bunch of menus for those simple operations here.
The complex infotainment screens in modern cars make accessing basic functions rather tedious and unsafe. But the dual functionality of the 2023 Verna’s console allows basic operations like changing the fan speed or overall temperature (via the left and right knobs, respectively) to happen with ease.
Tap the top right button, and the dials transform into shortcut controls for the infotainment helping you scroll through files or just control the volume through the knobs instantly. This is a lot safer than having to take your eyes off the road and struggle for those basic functions by tapping the screen, which might not even take your input on the first touch.
Hyundai has priced the Verna from Rs 10.90 lakh to Rs 17.38 lakh (ex-showroom). It takes the fight to the 2023 Honda City, VW Virtus, Skoda Slavia, and Maruti Ciaz.
