This limited edition, end-of-run, track-only Ford is restricted to 67 units – a tribute to the 67’ GT Mk IV race car

  • The GT Mk IV is the final track-only third generation Ford GT model.

  • Sports an elongated carbon fiber body and Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) suspension.

  • Twin-turbo V6 unit belts out more than 800PS.

  • Priced at around $ 1.7 million (Rs 14.04 crore).

In the pantheon of Le Mans racing, Ford has a pedestal right at the front. It all started when the original GT40 took on the heavy weights (Ferrari in particular) and went on a winning spree from 1966 to 1969. Now more than four decades and two generations later, Ford has come out with the final track-only iteration of the third-generation Ford GT that harks back to the 1967 GT Mk IV.

Limited to just 67 units ( a nod to the 1967 GT Mk IV race car), the GT Mk IV is tha apogee of the Ford GT’s performance prowess. It looks like a serious all-out race car and that’s because it is one. The seriousness is emphasised by the aero-focused carbon fiber exterior design which gets some extreme angles and sharp lines, to say the least.

Not restricted by any regulations, Ford has swapped the road-legal headlights for slim LED strips. The front wheel arch doesn’t extend all the way down to the sides like it usually does. Instead, there’s a thin vertical fin just behind the wheel which then blends into the side skirts acting as a diffuser. The wheels have a cover (similar to F1’s 2022 cars) which is also probably part of the extensive aero design.

The rear fender has a huge intake for engine cooling, while the elongated rear sports aggressive bits and pieces, not to mention the huge spoiler. It's so huge, in fact, that one can have a full-fledged meal on it. Talk about a multipurpose rear wing!

Powering this track-only GT is a twin-turbo V6 paired to a racing transmission. The setup is good for an output north of 800PS, although exact power and displacement figures have not yet been outed by Ford. The car sits on an Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) suspension and a chassis with a longer wheelbase, all of which aid in offering a greater dynamic performance. It also gets a racing suspension for sharper handling characteristics.
