Although electric and electrified vehicles have been the highlight at Auto Expo 2023, one cannot negate the fact that the love for SUVs has been growing strong as ever. Indians still love big SUVs and it shows from the massive crowd that surrounds these vehicles on the expo’s public days.
If you are headed to the biennial auto show, here are the top 10 SUVs we saw at Auto Expo 2023 that you shouldn’t miss:
This is it – the Jimny has finally made it to India after a long, long wait, and you can finally book your Jimny here as the carmaker prepares for the off-roader’s launch in the coming weeks. The SUV will only be available in a long-wheelbase, five-door guise in the Indian market, equipped with a punchy K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine and manual and automatic transmission options.
The Sierra was one of the highlights of the last Auto Expo in 2020, and this year, too, it grabbed all the attention with its all-new, near-production concept form. The Sierra has a throwback design and will be offered with both ICE (petrol and diesel) and EV powertrains in the country.
The facelifted Hector has made its official debut at Auto Expo 2023. It arrives with a redesigned front end and an array of new features. Importantly, it brings a major safety update with the addition of driver-assistance tech.
We’ve known for a while that the Curvv EV will get an ICE powertrain, but we finally got to see the ICE version of the concept SUV at Auto Expo 2023. The coupe-SUV is destined for launch in 2024, and its engine options have also been revealed.
Maruti took the wraps off the new Baleno-based SUV, oddly named the ‘Fronx’. It’s a cutesy little crossover with an appealing exterior design that brings back the carmaker’s 100PS turbo-petrol engine option that we lost during the switch to BS6.
Tata’s stalwart midsize SUV is about to go electric! The carmaker unveiled the new Harrier EV that’s expected to go on sale later this year at the auto show this year. It’ll slot above the Nexon EV Max in Tata’s EV lineup and looks snazzy with its reworked front-end styling.
The next-generation Lexus RX broke cover at Auto Expo 2023. The luxury SUV features an all-new, sleeker design and more SUV-esque proportions. In India, it’ll get two strong-hybrid powertrains – 250PS, 350h and 366PS, 500h F Sport.
Another SUV that’s pulling a huge crowd at the Expo is the mighty Land Cruiser 300 that makes a comeback to India. The newest generation Land Cruiser looks modern with its minimalist front-end styling, but should offer utility on a par with its predecessors owing to its mammoth size.
Kia took the wraps off its cutting-edge family SUV concept, the EV9. It features a bold and boxy styling and a minimalist cabin design that feels airy. It gives us a look into the carmaker’s vision for upcoming SUV models with its adjustable seating, 27-inch dual screen panel and huge panoramic glass roof.
The Tata Punch micro SUV was revealed with a CNG powertrain at the expo. It’ll get the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Tiago CNG, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. It makes a bit less power on CNG mode than petrol mode, but it has a pair of small tanks, instead of a single large CNG tank, which opens up more room in the boot.
The Auto Expo is on until January 18, so catch all these SUVs in the flesh at the event set in Greater Noida.
