2024 has already been a very eventful year for the Indian car industry, with launches like the Hyundai Creta facelift, new-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift and Mahindra XUV 3XO. However, the year is yet to bring in a lot more exciting stuff, including a 5-door version of this popular SUV, sportier version of Tata’s hatchback, a couple of eye-catching SUV coupes and an EV version of a popular SUV.
Let’s take a look at the comprehensive list of upcoming cars in 2024:
With multiple spy shots and a lot of buzz created around the Mahindra Thar 5-door, the longer wheelbase version of the Thar is surely going to be one of the most exciting launches of 2024. Mahindra has confirmed that the SUV will make its debut in India on August 15, and is expected to be priced from Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from being larger than the existing Thar, it will also get a feature-rich cabin which will make the SUV more upmarket.
It is expected to get features like a sunroof, push-button start/stop, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, digital-drivers display, steering-mounted audio controls, and cruise control. Safety will be taken care of by 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and a 360-degree camera.
The Thar 5-door will feature a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual along with an optional torque converter automatic.
The Citroen Basalt is the french car maker’s SUV coupe for the Indian car market. It is expected to be priced around the Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. Head over to our story to take a look at the upcoming Citroen Basalt SUV coupe.
It is expected to get features like a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital driver's display, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, rear AC vents, a wireless phone charger, and steering-mounted audio controls. Safety features are likely to include six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), and rear parking sensors. We can also expect it to come with a 360-degree camera.
The Basalt will likely get the 110 PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which is used on the C3 models as well. Transmission options are likely to include both a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
The Tata Altroz Racer, which is the sportier version of the Tata Altroz, is expected to be launched in the coming months. It will be priced around the Rs 10 lakh mark (ex-showroom). With sportier iterations of hatchbacks like the Hyundai i20 available in the market, it makes sense for Tata to launch the Altroz Racer. Recently, we were able to capture shots of the test vehicle, and were able to get a glimpse of the interior.
The upcoming Altroz Racer is expected to get features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital driver’s display, and ventilated front seats. Safety features should include ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, six airbags and a 360-degree camera.
The Altroz Racer will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine borrowed from the Nexon , making 120 PS/170 Nm, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. We expect it to get an automatic transmission option as well.
Maruti Suzuki will soon be launching the 2024 Swift Dzire. The upcoming Dzire has been spotted testing earlier, and will be getting a segment-first sunroof. It is expected to to be priced around the Rs 7 lakh mark (ex-showroom).
The 2024 Dzire will likely be equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a sunroof, automatic climate control, cruise control, rear AC vents, and a wireless phone charger. Safety features will include six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control and a reverse parking camera.
The 2024 Dzire is expected to be powered by the new 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which makes 82 PS and 112 Nm. It will be offered with both manual and automatic transmission options. The entry-level sedan will also get a factory-fitted CNG kit for those wanting to save money on fuel.
The Tata Curvv is definitely one of the most anticipated launches of 2024. It gets a coupe body style, and oozes “baby Urus” vibes. It is expected to be priced around Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom), and will directly rival the upcoming Citroen Basalt.
The expected features list includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system ,a digital 10.25-inch driver's display, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, cruise control, keyless entry, and push-button start. In terms of safety, it will get up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The Tata Curvv will likely get both petrol and diesel engine options. These options include a 125 PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, and a 115 PS 1.5-litre diesel engine from the Nexon.
Tata Harrier EV is the electric version of the mid-size SUV. It may be priced around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom), a premium of around Rs 4-5 lakh over the ICE-powered Harrier.
It is expected to be equipped with features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a 10-speaker JBL sound system, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, and an air purifier. Safety will be taken care of by 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill start assist, and a 360-degree camera. It will also be getting a host of level-2 ADAS features.
Specifications of the Harrier EV are still undisclosed. But what we do know is that it will get dual motors, making the mid-size SUV an all-wheel drive vehicle.
The Kia EV9 is the full-size electric SUV, which will be launched in India towards the end of 2024. It is Kia’s most premium offering, and is expected to be priced around Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom), when launched in India.
The EV9’s features list globally includes a dual integrated 12.3-inch infotainment and driver's displays, 6 fast charging USB ports, wireless phone charging, three-zone climate control, ambient lights, and electronic parking brake with auto hold. In terms of safety, it gets up to 8 airbags, a full suite of ADAS features, electronic stability control (ESC), ABS, and hill-assist control.
It will likely come with multiple battery packs, with the option of choosing between single and double electric motors.
MG India will be launching the 2024 Gloster facelift in the second half of 2024. It will be priced around the Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom) mark and is expected to get an upgraded cabin over the existing model. Features expected on the upcoming Gloster include a 12.3-inch infotainment system with integrated Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, 12-way powered front seat with massage and ventilation, and three-zone climate control. In terms of safety, it will likely get six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, hill-hold assist, ISOFIX mounts, and a full suite of ADAS features.
The Gloster comes with two diesel engines. A 2-litre turbo-diesel making 161 PS and 374 Nm and a 2-litre twin-turbo diesel which produces 216 PS and 479 Nm. Both these engine options are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Hyundai Alcazar facelift is expected to hit the Indian roads by the end of 2024. It is expected to be priced from Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom), and will get an upgraded exterior as well as a revamped interior which will be similar to that of the 2024 Creta.
It will be equipped with features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an automatic climate control system, cruise control, wireless phone charging and a 10.25-inch digital drivers display. Additionally, it will also get features like a twin camera dash cam, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats. In terms of safety, it will get ISOFIX child seat anchors, hill-start assist control (HAC), electronic stability control (ESC), six standard airbags as standard and a 360-degree camera.
It will be powered by two engine options, including a 1.5-liter diesel engine producing 116 PS 250 Nm and a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine producing 160 PS 253 Nm. For the petrol engine, you will get an option of a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox options, and for the diesel engine, you can either opt for the 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
The Kia Carnival is expected to be launched in the Indian market at approximately Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). The Carnival was recently spotted undisguised in India, and you can head over to our story to take a closer look at it.
The Carnival will be equipped with features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital drivers display, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, ventilated seats, air purifier, and a rear seat entertainment system. Expected safety features include 6 airbags, a host of Level-2 ADAS features, and a 360-degree camera.
The Carnival will likely be powered by the 2.2-litre diesel engine which produces 200 PS. It is expected to get an 8-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the front wheels.
