The Tata Punch has been the best-selling car in India for the second consecutive month. Tata has sold over 19,000 units of the Tata Punch. The year-on-year sales for the subcompact SUV also saw a significant increase of 75 percent. Note that the number of units sold include both the Tata Punch ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and Punch EV.
Maruti has sold 17,800 units of the Maruti Wagon R, which is 1,500 more than what it sold in March. Due to the rise in sales, it could overtake the Hyundai Creta and become the second-best selling car of the month. Even after such impressive numbers, Maruti has still faced a 15 percent loss in yearly sales.
The Maruti Brezza has climbed six positions to reach the third position in the monthly sales chart. Its tally for April sales has crossed the 17,000-unit mark, registering a commendable growth of 17 percent and 45 percent, in month-on-month (MoM) and year-on-year (YoY) sales, respectively.
Maruti has dispatched over 15,800 units of the Dzire in April, maintaining a consistent number in terms of sales. The YoY sales growth for the subcompact sedan was 56 percent.
Nearly 15,500 units of the Hyundai Creta were sold in April, a decrease of over 1,000 units from March 2024. This decrease in sales pushed the Creta down to fifth in the sales table. However, it saw a YoY increase of 9 percent.
The Mahindra Scorpio surpassed 14,800 units in monthly sales. Even though its monthly sales decreased by 300 units, its annual sales increased by 54 percent. Note that the Mahindra Scorpio N and Mahindra Scorpio Classic sales are a part of this number.
With more than 14,000 units sold, the Maruti Fronx saw a 14 percent monthly and 63 percent yearly growth.
The Maruti Baleno, which is the only premium hatchback on the list, went past the 14,000-unit sales mark in April 2024. Despite these numbers, it saw a decline of 10 percent and 13 percent in both month-on-month (MoM) and year-on-year (YoY) sales, respectively.
The only two MPVs to make it to the list are the Maruti Ertiga and Maruti Eeco, with 13,500 units of the Ertiga sold, while the Eeco managed to attract over 12,000 buyers.
The Tata Nexon is far down in the list compared to the Punch. Tata managed to sell just over 11,000 units of the Nexon in April 2024. These numbers are not very impressive, which explains the Nexon’s 21 percent drop in monthly sales and 26 percent loss in yearly sales.
Together, the Mahindra Bolero, Bolero Neo, and Bolero Neo Plus sold more than 9,500 units in April 2024. While their month-on-month (MoM) sales decreased by 810 units, their yearly sales remained consistent.
The Hyundai Venue was the third subcompact SUV on the list, with over 9,000 customers in the last month. Note that the numbers include both the Venue and Venue N Line.
The Maruti Alto K10 is another consistent performer on the list, with over 9,000 units dispatched in April 2024. On the other hand, its annual sales fell by 22 percent.
Lastly, we have the Kia Sonet which managed to find 7,901 buyers in April 2024. It experienced a loss of 10 percent in monthly and 19 percent in yearly sales.
