Royal Enfield continues to maintain its dominance in this segment as four of its models: Royal Enfield Classic 350, Royal Enfield Meteor 350, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the Royal Enfield Scram 411 performed admirably well in June 2024. The Triumph Speed 400 and the Triumph Scrambler 400 X’s sales are going well too and the brand’s increased number of touchpoints across the country in terms of dealerships must have contributed to that. The Classic 350’s direct rival, the Honda H’ness CB350 is still performing decently well but sales have dipped a lot compared to June 2023. Check out more details on June 2024’s top 5 best-selling bikes in the Rs 2-3 lakh price bracket here:

The Royal Enfield Classic 350 provides the perfect combination of retro charm and adequate performance for all purposes. The ample low-end torque of the J-series engine makes it easy to ride in the city and the overall relaxed nature of the engine makes it perfect for touring at your own pace. The setup of the twin shock absorbers are a bit on the stiffer side but overall the suspension setup is pliant enough to absorb bumps and potholes pretty well. And the upright riding posture translates to a comfortable riding experience.

The engine’s refined performance lets you cruise at speeds of 90-100kmph on the highway comfortably with minimal vibrations. It is quite tractable too as you can commute in the city at speeds of 30kmph in 3rd or 4th gear all day. The bike feels agile on the move, making it easy to manoeuvre in and out of traffic. Overall, the bike provides a combination of a good looking design with beautiful colour schemes, relaxed performance, good handling characteristics and a comfortable riding experience.

The first bike from Royal Enfield to be powered by a liquid-cooled engine, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, replaced the Himalayan 411 in the Chennai-based manufacturer’s lineup. The ADV is an all-rounder as its heavy 198kg kerb weight is not felt much when the bike is on the move, making it quite easy to ride in the city. When you go touring with the bike, that’s when the ADV shines the best with comfortable suspension setup and exciting performance. And if you are an off-road junkie, this bike has a lot of off-road cred too.

The Scram 411 is based on the older Himalayan 411’s platform and is an able scrambler for all purposes and intent. The torquey engine makes it very easy to cruise on the highway and the comfortable ergonomics complement that very well. The agile and predictable handling characteristics make it quite fun to ride on the mountain twisties. And the bright colour schemes make it stand out on the road for sure.

The 400cc twins from Triumph changed the sub-450cc retro segment in 2023 as they perfectly blended amazing value for money quotient and excellent build quality. The Speed 400 is the neo-retro roadster while the 400 X is its scrambler version. The engine is very tractable and provides smooth performance. The 400 X gets a higher seat height, longer suspension travel and bits like knuckle guards and a sump guard that makes it ready for some trail-hunting anytime.

The H’ness CB350 gets some handsome looks along with stylish colour options across the variants. The build quality has a premium feel to it. The engine is quite refined but the low-end torque could have been better. The wide handlebar and the upright riding posture lets you sit on the saddle for long hours without experiencing much fatigue. And the pliant suspension setup adds to that experience.
