7 Features The Thar 5-door Could Get From XUV700

Mahindra will be launching the 5-door version of the iconic Thar on August 15. As seen in spy shots, the Thar 5-door will be packing more equipment than its existing 3-door version and will be priced at a premium. A handful of the Thar 5-door’s features are already available in Mahindra’s existing models.  Let’s take a look at the 7 features the Thar 5-door could borrow from the flagship Mahindra SUV, the XUV700.

A Larger 10.25-inch Touchscreen Infotainment

The upcoming Thar 5-door will get a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system taken from the XUV700. It will be a new addition to the Thar, which currently comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The new infotainment system will support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well connected car tech for added convenience.

10.25-inch Fully Digital Driver’s Display

The 5-door version of the Thar will be offered with a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display borrowed from the XUV700.This feature was also seen on the test mules that were spotted before.  In comparison, the current Thar gets an analogue instrument cluster with a multi-info display, which will be offered in the lower variants of the upcoming 5-door model.

Wireless Phone Charger

The XUV700 will likely be lending its wireless phone charger to the upcoming Thar 5-door. Wireless charging has become a common feature in recent times and will be a great addition to the upcoming Thar, and also make sure that you don’t need to rely on wires to keep your phone’s battery topped up.

6 Airbags As Standard

Mahindra will most likely be offering 6 airbags as standard across all variants of the Thar 5-door to improve its safety quotient. We also expect Mahindra to update the 3-door version of the Thar with 6 airbags, which currently gets only dual front airbags. This safety upgrade will also ensure that the Thar passes the crash safety test with flying colours.

Dual-zone Climate Control

A dual-zone climate control, which is a feature that has been given on multiple Mahindra cars like the XUV700, XUV400 EV and the newly launched XUV 3XO is expected to make its way to the longer-wheelbase version of the Thar. This will let the driver and rest of the occupants to choose individual temperature settings as per their own requirement.

360-degree Camera

With its larger size, a 360-degree camera borrowed from the XUV700 would be another great addition to the longer Thar. The 360-degree camera will make parking the SUV and maneuvering it through traffic a slightly easier task.

ADAS

A second safety feature that the upcoming Thar is expected to get from the XUV700 is the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Just like the XUV700, the ADAS kit should consist of features like lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

Apart from these features, the Thar could also get a panoramic sunroof from the XUV700. Even though there is no confirmation on the same, recent spy shots suggest otherwise.

Mahindra Thar 5-door Expected Price And Rivals

The Thar 5-door is expected to be priced higher than the existing 3-door version of the Thar which is priced from Rs 11.35 lakh to Rs 17.6 lakh (ex-showroom). After being launched, it will lock horns with the Force Gurkha 5-door, while being a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki JImny.
