2022 has been a booming year for the Indian automotive industry. We’ve got new brands making inroads in the country and upping the competition, which has the customer base spoiled for choices in most segments. Moreover the push towards electrification has further increased the number of options in the market. And with the year coming to end, we’ve still got a bunch of possible launches that will stir up some conversions for sure. Let’s take a look at what those might be:
BYD revealed its second car for India, the Atto 3 electric SUV, with all the specification details recently. But they left out the most important thing, the price, which will be revealed at its launch in December. Bookings and test drives for the electric SUV are already underway.
Toyota’s new-generation Innova, called the Innova Hycross, will break cover in November. The new-generation MPV takes on a whole new philosophy by ditching the diesel powertrain for a strong hybrid one. It will also be based on a new monocoque platform, the details of which have been jotted down in our article.

Mercedes will likely launch its seven-seater GLB SUV in India this December. The SUV could make its debut alongside its electric iteration, the EQB, which is also due for a launch by this December. It will likely be an imported unit in the country.
The Mercedes EQB made its global debut in April 2021 and is now on its way to India. The electric derivative of the GLB SUV, will be launched in the country by December and will become the first all-electric seven-seater in the country when launched. It will join Mercedes’ Indian electric SUV stable alongside the EQC.
Jeep’s luxury SUV, the Grand Cherokee, will soon hit Indian showrooms after its reveal in November. The SUV will be a completely knocked down (CKD) unit, with assembly to be undertaken at Jeep’s Ranjangaon facility. It will come packed to the brim with premium creature comforts and safety equipment, and will be a rival to the likes of the Volvo XC90, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be launched in the country before the end of this year. The electric hatchback has been spotted testing on multiple occasions in the country. It is based on the same Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) as its cousin, the Kia EV6. But unlike its cousin, the Ioniq 5 could be assembled locally, which would allow Hyundai to price it competitively. Keep your eyes open for this one as it is likely to be made in limited units and if the response to the EV6 is anything to go by, Hyundai’s electric hatchback will have a lot of takers.
The MG Hector’s facelift has been due for a while now and might just be around the corner. According to sources, the updated SUV will be sold alongside the existing model and will offer a premium alternative within the SUV’s range. No powertrain revisions are expected as the update will likely focus on cosmetic and feature revisions including the highlighted 14-inch touchscreen and ADAS.
The Maserati MC20 is expected to arrive in India by December. The sports car’s launch was confirmed in the beginning of the year, alongside the Levante Hybrid SUV, which has already been launched in the country. Its launch was initially slated for Q1 2022, but was postponed to Q3 2022. Under the hood is an in-house developed 630PS 3-litre twin-turbo V6 unit paired to an eight-speed transmission.
The saga of the five-door Force Gurkha has been ongoing for some time now, but it might just come to a conclusion by the end of December. Its production-ready unit was spied without camo, giving a clear look of the SUV. The 5-door model’s price will be more than the current SUV that retails at Rs 14.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
With all these upcoming cars that could be launched before the end of this year, we reckon you hold on from making a decision, just to have a taste of everything out there and then settle for the one that scratches your itch.
