The last week started with a fresh new revival for the sedan segment, and it gave us reassuring news about the future of cars in India and overseas. Closer to home, there are a bunch of new cars coming, and even the models that haven’t been cosmetically updated are likely to get more advanced safety features nonetheless.
Here are the major happenings from last week that you may have missed out on:
Skoda Slavia Launched:
Czech carmaker Skoda started the week by launching the 1-litre TSI variant of its all-new, MQB A0 IN-based sedan. It brings a slew of new features and upgrades over the Rapid sedan it replaces in Skoda’s lineup. Later in the week, Skoda also brought in its gearhead-friendly Slavia 1.5-litre TSI with a more potent 150PS turbo-petrol engine.
Jeep Compass Trailhawk Launched:
The ‘Trailhawk’ name is synonymous with off-roading capability, and the facelifted Jeep Compass Trailhawk has the hardware to back up its claim. It has a low-range transfer case with a 20:1 crawl ratio, off-roading tyres, and better approach and departure angles than its predecessor. Head to our Compass Trailhawk launch story for all the details.
Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Launched:
the automobile community
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class offers an array of new creature comforts and tech befitting a flagship luxury sedan. But the Maybach treats its rear-seat occupants with even more legroom, gesture-controlled doors, and a rear passenger-centric MBUX infotainment system. Mercedes will locally produce its V8-powered variant in India, and you can find out all about the new Maybach sedan in our story.
Exclusive Toyota Glanza News:
In our latest scoop, we’ve got our hands on a bunch of new details about the upcoming Glanza’s variants and colours! The Baleno-based premium hatchback is likely to get a comprehensive set of updates similar to the Maruti hatchback. It’ll also get distinct styling cues to differentiate itself from the Baleno on which it is based.
Exclusive MG ZS EV News:
Ahead of its launch, we’ve got some exclusive info about the facelifted ZS EV SUV’s new powertrain! It’ll get a larger 50.3kWh battery pack and most of the equipment we’ve seen on its ICE-powered sibling, the Astor. It does seem to miss out on a crucial safety update, but the ZS EV is likely to be even more competitive with its rival, the Hyundai Kona Electric.
Tata Altroz DCA Bookings Open:
The Tata Altroz will soon get a new DCT gearbox and a new Opel Blue paint shade. Interestingly, the 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox will be paired with the NA 1.2-litre petrol engine, not the turbocharged petrol or diesel engines. Apart from these updates, the Altroz is likely to remain the great looking premium hatchback it’s always been.
Hyundai To Introduce ADAS Features In India:
Safety standards are expected to get more stringent in India, and Hyundai is gearing up for the change with new advanced driver assistance and active safety (ADAS) features. Soon, we could see the Creta and Alcazar SUVs get auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist. It remains to be seen if or how the tech will filter down to more affordable models such as the Hyundai Verna and i20.
