The first week of June already saw a lot of action on our shores with launches as well as details on upcoming cars surfacing. In markets abroad, too, it was quite a busy week with a slew of debuts in a variety of segments. Here’s the coolest unveils of the last seven days:
After 40 years, DeLorean , the same carmaker that brought the DMC12 two-door sports car which was the iconic Back To The Future time machine, is back with the all-new Alpha5 electric coupe. It’s got a curvy yet clean design, a minimalist cabin, as well as decent performance thrills for a base-spec model.
The BMW X1 has a new iteration and alongside it is its all-electric iteration called the iX1. The X1 now gets ICE, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options, while the iX1 gets dual electric motors with an all-wheel-drive system.
After making its debut in 2017 as a concept and five testing years of research and development, Mercedes has finally managed to make the AMG One hypercar production-ready. One of its main party tricks is an F1-derived 1.6-litre turbo V6 engine that works with four electric motors to produce a combined 1063PS. The hypercar also comes with a host of other performance wizardry including active aero and a carbon fibre body to aid performance.
Mercedes has globally revealed the next iteration of the GLC SUV which now gets electrified powertrains. The new generation model of the luxury SUV also comes with more amenities, hybridised propulsion systems and design updates which give it a fresher and cleaner overall look.
While the Land Rover Defender is already quite a capable beast off-road, the carmaker wants families to take such excursions. Well in comes the Defender 130 which can seat up to eight occupants. To make that happen of course, Land Rover had to really stretch the Defender 110 to make it look quite bulbous. Even the touchscreen infotainment system has been bitten by the size extension.
The middle child of Lexus’ SUV range, the RX, has been given a fifth generational update. It’s given the luxury SUV a bolder, more aggressive design, a lot more tech, as well as new powertrain options which include petrol-only, self-charging hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.
