Earlier this month, Toyota introduced the ninth-generation Camry in India at a sticker price of Rs 48 lakh (ex-showroom), which is an increase of Rs 1.83 lakh over its predecessor. Speaking of which, the new-gen Camry features substantial changes across the board, including exterior and interior designs. While we have already covered the differences between the two models when it comes to features, here we are going to shed some light on their design differences inside and out.
The Camry has been around for a few decades and its design language has undergone changes ranging from minor to significant over the years. The latest ninth-gen Camry is no exception as it bears a completely new styling, featuring a blend of elegance and sportiness over the old version.
Compared to the previous eighth-gen Camry, the new model features Toyota’s fresh design language in line with its other cars, namely the Prius, Crown Signia, and bZ4X. The front end of the new Camry gets the bigger change, which is a shark-nose inspired fascia. The cammaker calls it a hammerhead shape.
Additionally, there are sleek headlights with integrated sharp C-shaped DRLs. In comparison, the old Camry had a single projector headlight on either side with the design of the DRLs reminiscent of the WiFi sign. The Toyota logo now sits on the bonnet instead of the black strip trim on the previous model.
Coming to the side profile, the Camry carries its low-slung stance but now features a more sloping and lowered roofline as compared to the fairly slanting roofline of the previous one. Not to mention the Camry comes with a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels.
At the back, the overall design of the new Camry looks more sculpted and sporty than the old model and appears a little wider. In addition, there are new C-pattern taillights, which are slimmer compared to the model it replaces. Meanwhile, Toyota offers the 2024 Camry with a choice of 6 paint options: Emotional Red, Platinum White Pearl, Precious Metal, Cement Grey, Attitude Black, and Dark Blue.
The interior is where the two cars have a day and night difference. The new Camry features a modern and upmarket cabin layout with a touch of minimalism. Whereas, the old version of the premium sedan had a quirky dashboard design.
While the international-spec Camry can be had in several interior trims and upholstery options, the India-spec model gets only a single dual-tone theme – brown and black paired with metal-finished trim. Most notably, the co-driver side dashboard part, in the new Camry, adorns a funky styling layout that mimics the design of a guitar fretboard.
The upmarket layout has also brought a new 12.3-inch dual display setup to the Camry, comprising a touchscreen infotainment system and an-all digital driver’s display. The cabin also comes with an array of physical buttons for numerous functions. The central console is more or less similar to the old Camry layout that consists of two cubby holders, a chunky gear stick, and a few switches for vehicle related control, such as driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport.
One of the highlights of the interior is the touch-capacitive screen housed in the rear centre armrest, that controls the rear seats reclining function, music, and air-conditioning. This was also available on the previous Camry.
All in all, the design of the ninth-generation Camry is a step forward from the previous generation model. It now looks elegant yet sporty and upmarket on the inside, keeping it fresh and competitive.
