  • Hilux prices to be announced on January 20.
  • Will be powered by 208PS 2.8-litre diesel engine, paired with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission.
  • A four-wheel drivetrain with a low range gearbox will be offered.
  • Likely to be priced between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh.

Toyota India has teased the Hilux pickup truck ahead of its launch on January 20, 2022. You can reserve one soon after its price announcement, and Toyota will start handing over the pickup truck from March onwards. It will be locally assembled at Toyota’s plant in Karnataka, and we expect it to be priced between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Hilux, with its butch design, can turn heads. A large grille takes up most of the real estate, and is flanked by a pair of LED headlamps. The bumpers also get sharp creases for the fog lamp housing, which add to its aggressive look. In profile, the pickup rolls on the Fortuner’s 18-inch alloy wheels, and the body cladding (probably optional) beef up the design. LED tail lamps with B-motif complete the design.

Inside, the pickup should share its instrument cluster, infotainment system, and climate control knobs with the Fortuner for economies of scale. That said, the cabin layout and design is slightly different to ensure it has its own unique personality.

It could also borrow certain features from the Fortuner like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a JBL audio system, keyless entry with push button start, a colored multi-info display, cruise control, powered driver’s seat, and a wireless phone charger.

Passenger safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and hill descent control.

Toyota hasn’t skimped on the powertrain front as the Fortuner’s 208PS 2.8-litre diesel engine, paired with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, will be present. Also, four-wheel drive with a low range gearbox should help you tackle the roughest of terrains. Internationally, it can be had with a smaller 150PS 2.4-litre diesel engine as well.

The Hilux’s alternative is the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross
