Toyota India has recalled a total of 1,390 units of the Glanza hatchback and Hyryder SUV. Both models have been affected by a faulty airbag controller, just like their equivalent Maruti counterparts - the Baleno and Grand Vitara. This recall is for vehicles manufactured between December 8 and January 12.
Faulty airbag controllers could result in the seatbelt pretensioners and airbags not deploying in the event of a crash. Considering that this is a safety threat, we suggest owners of affected vehicles get their vehicles checked at a Toyota dealership at the earliest. In fact, the carmaker has advised minimal usage of your vehicle until the faulty part has been replaced.
Toyota dealers will contact owners of affected vehicles, after which they will inspect the part and replace it for free if required. You can also find out if your vehicle is part of the recall by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in this link.
Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki has also recalled the Grand Vitara and Baleno, equivalents of Hyryder and Glanza, respectively, for the same recall. You can read more about this news here.
