The Maruti Ertiga is back from the surgeon’s office and now identifies as the Toyota Rumion. The rebadged MPV has just made its India debut, ahead of a scheduled launch around the 2023 festive season. So before the launch and booking antics kick off, let’s take a detailed look at the Toyota Rumion, in these 10 images:
The nose of the Toyota Rumion matches the Maruti Ertiga in how the headlights are styled and the fog lamps are placed. But Toyota has reworked the grille, which resembles the Innova Hycross. Even the fog lamp surrounds and the air dam on the lower front bumper have been reworked.
The MPV shape of the Rumion is apparent in profile with a long wheelbase and slightly raked roofline. The design is neat with only a couple of character lines while there’s a new design for the 15-inch alloy wheels, with respect to the Maruti Ertiga.

The changes on the Rumion are equally few and far between at the rear, as the only distinguishing factor is the chrome strip that connects the LED taillights and obviously, the Toyota and Rumion badging.
The Rumion will be available in three broad variants, namely S, G and V, and will be available to spec in five exterior paint options: Spunky Blue, Rustic Brown, Iconic Grey, Cafe White, and Entycing Silver.
Step inside and you’ll be met with a near identical cabin as the Maruti Ertiga. The layered dashboard gets a wood trim in the middle, running the width of the dashboard, while the same can also be found around the steering wheel.
The dual-tone fabric upholstery is slightly different on the Ertiga, which gets a beige hue. There are roof-mounted AC vents for the second-row passengers, with dedicated fan speed control. You also get a centre armrest as it follows the same 7-seater layout.
Even the list of features is indistinguishable, as it packs the same 7-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, a 4-speaker sound system with two tweeters, and push-button start/stop.

The Toyota Rumion’s safety kit gets up to four airbags, electronic stability programme (ESP), a reversing camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages (second row).
The powertrain options include the 1.5-litre petrol engine (103PS/137Nm) with both 5-speed MT and 6-speed AT options (with paddle shifter). There’s also an optional CNG powertrain, which will be available at launch, though only with a manual gearbox. The output, too, drops to 88PS/121.5Nm when run in CNG mode. The claimed mileage figures are as follows: 20.11kmpl (AT), 20.51kmpl (MT), and 26.11km/kg (CNG).

Toyota will launch the Rumion in India during the festive season, and prices are expected to be similar to what Maruti asks for the Ertiga, which is sold between Rs 8.64 lakh and Rs 13.08 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Toyota Rumion will rival the Kia Carens and Mahindra Marazzo, while the Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto can be considered as premium alternatives.
