Toyota Taisor vs Hyundai Venue: Performance Battle Of Turbo-petrol SUVs!

The Toyota Taisor and Hyundai Venue are two of the many sub-4m SUVs on sale in India at the moment. Both cars get multiple powertrain options, including the choice of a turbo-petrol engine, which promises to be the pinnacle of performance in their respective lineups. Spec check

Both the Hyundai Venue and Toyota Taisor get a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine. But the Venue’s unit puts out more power compared to the Taisor’s output of 100PS and 148Nm.

The Venue also gets a quicker dual clutch automatic transmission, compared to the Taisor’s smooth 6-speed torque converter. Will that make a difference in the real world? Let’s find out:

Performance

That’s a clean sweep for the Toyota Taisor. Despite the difference in on-paper specs, the Taisor is quicker in the 0-100kmph sprint, and further widens the gap in the quarter mile time. 

The cars are closest in the kickdown 20-80kmph test, with a difference of just 0.08 seconds between the two.

The braking test too, is very close, with the Taisor stopping 0.11m (11cm) before the Venue.

Price and rivals

With the Hyundai Venue and Toyota Taisor retailing between Rs 7.94 lakh and Rs 13.48 lakh, and Rs 7.73 lakh and Rs 13.03 lakh, respectively, both the cars are priced very similarly. But the Venue carries a slight premium over the Taisor, likely because of its extra set of features, including sunroof and ADAS.
