Toyota Taisor vs Kia Sonet: Which Turbo-petrol SUV Is Quicker In Our Real-world Test?

In the latest edition of the Zig performance comparison, we have lined up the Kia Sonet and Toyota Taisor. Both the SUVs here come equipped with a turbo-petrol engine that can plaster a smile on your face. But which one is quicker in our outright and roll-on acceleration tests? 

That’s what we are going to find out. But before that… 

Spec Check 

On paper, the Sonet clearly has the power advantage over the Taisor. That said, the Toyota has an advantage in the form of mild-hybrid tech, which basically adds a dash of torque boost using a small electric motor and battery pack when pushing it hard. We test the automatic variants of both the models to find out which one is quicker.

Acceleration Test  

Despite being down on power, the Urban Cruiser Taisor manages to beat the Kia Sonet in the outright acceleration test by almost a full second. We suspect this to be due to the Taisor’s lower kerb weight, which helps it be quicker. 

A better way to assess real world performance is in the roll-on acceleration test. And even here, the Taisor is the quicker car here, beating the Sonet by almost half a second.  That being said, while driving from point A to point B in normal conditions, both cars offer more than satisfactory performance. 

Price And Verdict 

In the confines of this test, the Taisor was the quicker car in both the 0-100 kmph as well roll-on acceleration tests and wins this comparison.
