Prices for the Toyota Rumion begin from Rs 10.29 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 13.68 lakh (all prices ex-showroom) for the top-spec trim. The CNG kit is offered in the base-spec variant only and carries a premium of Rs 95,000 over the petrol manual powertrain.
The automatic variants on the other hand will set you back up to Rs 1.6 lakh more than the manual variants for their added convenience. For reference, the Maruti Ertiga retails between Rs 8.64 lakh and Rs 13.08 lakh (ex-showroom)
Although the Toyota Rumion is immediately recognisable as the car it is based on, the carmaker has made a few tweaks to give it a distinctive identity. That individuality comes from the reworked grille, which resembles that of the Innova Hycross, while the fog lamp surrounds and the air dam on the lower front bumper have also been tweaked.
The side profile is unchanged, save for the new 15-inch alloy wheels, while the rear too gets only a single change to set it apart from the Maruti. That comes in the form of the chrome strip that connects the LED taillights along with obvious Toyota and Rumion badging.
The five exterior paint options are: Spunky Blue, Rustic Brown, Iconic Grey, Cafe White, and Entycing Silver.
The cabin layout is nearly identical to that of the Maruti, but you get a different finish for the wood trim in the middle of the dashboard, and on the steering wheel as well. There’s also a brown/beige dual-tone upholstery, which is slightly different to the Ertiga’s beige-only hue.
The similarities continue in the list of features which comprise roof-mounted AC vents for the second-row passengers, with dedicated fan speed control, same 7-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, a 4-speaker sound system with two tweeters, and push-button start/stop.
Four airbags, electronic stability programme (ESP), a reversing camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages (second row) make up the Rumion’s safety kit.
There’s a single 1.5-litre petrol engine on offer, available with both 5-speed MT and 6-speed AT, with the output rated at 103PS and 137Nm. However, if you opt for the CNG kit, that drops down to 88PS/121.5Nm. The claimed mileage figures are as follows: 20.11kmpl (AT), 20.51kmpl (MT), and 26.11km/kg (CNG).

The Toyota Rumion will appeal as a fresher package in contrast to the Maruti Ertiga, which has been around for sometime now. That apart, the Toyota loyalists who wanted an rebadged Ertiga can now have one, although they will have to pay a premium for that badge. Apart from the Maruti Ertiga, the Kia Carens and Mahindra Marazzo, will be its main rivals while the Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto can be considered as premium alternatives.
