TVS Motors had many surprises for us at MotoSoul 2023, the first being the reveal of the TVS RTE (Racing Throttle Electric) bike which was unveiled a while ago as part of the TVS Electric Racing Program, e-OMC (electric One Make Championship). The brand also announced a partnership with riding gear manufacturer Alpinestars.
The TVS RTE is an electric race bike powered by a liquid-cooled motor producing a peak power of 59kW (80PS) at 5500rpm. The RTE is able to clock a claimed top speed of more than 200kmph. TVS also claims that it can hit 0-100kmph faster than equivalent ICE motorcycles by 1 second. The TVS RTE was able to achieve a claimed range of 5 laps at the Madras International Circuit (MIC), previously known as the Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT).
The bike is built on a central aluminium frame that connects the motor and rear suspension to the front steering system and suspension, with the battery case and motor casing being structural members. The battery is housed inside two symmetric packs that are arranged in a way that makes quick swapping possible.
Suspension duties are handled by a 43mm Ohlins inverted fork and a 36mm Ohlins monoshock, and the bike rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels that are wrapped in 110-section and 140-section Pirelli SuperCross SCI at the front and rear respectively. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm and 240mm disc at front and rear respectively with Brembo callipers.
The TVS RTE is the brand’s foray into high performance electric motorcycles and although it is a race spec bike in the current configuration, TVS might take learnings from this race-only motorcycle and implement it on future production electric bikes which will compete with the likes of Ultraviolette F99.
