Norton Motorcycles has finally made its comeback and how! Six months after the TVS-owned bikemaker welcomed its new leadership, the Norton V4SV superbike has made its debut. The new flagship motorcycle comes in as the successor to the V4SS and Norton has taken a very different approach with its new bike.
The Norton V4SS belted out an astounding 202PS and 130Nm from the 1200cc 72-degree V4 powerhouse. Rather than pushing the engine to eke more performance, Norton has dialled it down to produce 187PS and 124Nm for the V4SV.
Norton proudly calls the V4SV as the ‘most luxurious British superbike ever created’ and boy, do they mean that. The bikemaker has finetuned all the years of experience from the gruelling Isle Of Man TT races and packaged it all in this exquisite beauty.
For starters, the Norton V4SV uses an aluminum tubular frame with aerospace-grade CNC machined outriggers and headstock. And like a thoroughbred race machine, the V4SV flaunts adjustable rake angle, steering offset and swingarm pivot. Norton has paired the frame with a billet single-sided swingarm with linkage geometry drive from its expertise in the TT.
The bespoke bikemaker has used top-of-the-line Ohlins NIX30 and Ohlins TTXGP monoshock to handle suspension duties. For braking, Norton has used Brembo’s flagship monobloc calipers clamping onto twin 330mm discs.
The Norton V4SV’s racing heritage further becomes obvious with the use of lightweight exquisite components like carbonfibre bodywork, and even underseat fuel tank. One can even opt for carbonfibre wheels if the forged aluminum units don’t cut it.
Norton has made no compromises on electronics as well. From a 6-axis IMU-governed cornering traction control to riding modes and a bi-directional quickshifter with auto-blipper, the V4SV has it all. All of these settings can be accessed via a new 6-inch TFT display. The instrument console also boasts of a rear view camera functionality, although it is not intended to replace the rear view mirrors.
Norton is yet to announce the pricing of the V4SV. It is likely to come in limited numbers, like its predecessor and demand a hefty sum. Will it come to India though? While Norton’s future in India seemed bleak after the Moto Royale debacle, we expect the brand to resume sales here soon.
