Launch to happen sometime in 2023.
When it comes to driving dynamics, the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia are the stalwarts of the compact sedan segment in the country. Ebullient turbo-engines and more than decent driving dynamics – the two have got all that an enthusiast with a budget can ask for. But soon, both models will face heat with the introduction of the new Verna packing an even more potent 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine.
The new generation Verna, which is due for launch this year, will use a revised version of the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit that has been upsized to a 1.5-litre unit. This engine should be on a par with the 150PS, 1.5-litre TSI turbo engines found in the Virtus and Slavia. The current generation sedan gets a seven-speed DCT with the turbo mill and it should be carried forward to the new generation model.
And for enthusiasts, the Verna will be getting an N Line variant as well. It’ll retain the same formula as the two other N Line offerings in the country: i20 N Line and Venue N Line. The powertrain will be untouched, but there will be other mechanical tweaks like a revised suspension setup and a throatier exhaust note along with improved driving dynamics. To keep things coherent, the sedan will also have sportier design touches inside and out as well.

Given that this is a new generation model of the Verna, it will have a proper design overhaul with connected LED lights at the rear. The overhaul will continue on the inside with major updates to the layout and even the features list. Previous spy shots reveal a dual screen setup (likely to be 10.25-inches) and a radar has also been spotted, confirming the presence of ADAS. The updated features list could also pack equipment like a 360-degree camera, Bose sound system and powered driver’s seat.

These updates will surely push the sedan’s prices, which currently range between Rs 9.63 lakh and Rs 15.71 lakh (ex-showroom), up. The new generation Hyundai Verna will continue to face off against the likes of the Honda City, Skoda Slavia, VW Virtus, and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
