Syros will be the name of the upcoming Kia SUV
Teasers reveal a modern design language with plenty of vertical lighting elements
Expected to be positioned between the Sonet and Seltos
Likely to be offered with a host of premium features on board
Could get the Sonet’s powertrain options including both petrol and diesel engines
It will probably hit our shores by early next year
Kia has announced that its upcoming SUV will be called the Syros. Both “Clavis” and “Syros” were names that were trademarked by Kia for its upcoming SUV earlier this year. But it seems like the Korean carmaker has decided to go with the latter thereby continuing the tradition of naming its SUVs with the starting letter “S”. The Syros is expected to be placed between the Sonet and the Seltos.
Along with the naming, Kia also gave us a glimpse of the SUV’s design. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Kia SUV:
Take a look at the teasers and you will notice that the design elements and silhouette look similar to that of the larger Carnival and EV9. In line with Kia’s new design language, the Syros will sport modern and bold styling elements. The new teaser gives us a look at the vertically designed 3-pod LED headlights complimented with long vertical LED DRLs.
Previous teasers had revealed its side and rear profile featuring a tall stance with a boxy appearance. You can spot roof rails and flush door handles that add a rugged and premium touch to the exterior, respectively.
The rear sports L-shaped LED tail lights that are placed in the upper section of the SUV’s rear end. The tailgate looks to be rather flat, further accentuating the boxy silhouette of the SUV. While it's not clear, we can spot what appears to be a little spoiler at the top-end of the rear.
While we do not have information about its cabin, we expect it to have a modern dashboard design and layout which could take cues from both the Sonet and Seltos. A couple of spy shots had earlier revealed the presence of a sporty-looking 2-spoke steering wheel.
Being a Kia, one can expect it to be loaded to the brim with amenities and comforts. Its top features could include dual 10.25 inch screens for the infotainment and driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, 6 standard airbags, ADAS and a wireless phone charger.
The Syros is expected to be powered by the Sonet’s engine options. These include a 1.2-litre NA petrol, a 1-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel options. You get both manual and automatic options at your convenience. Here’s a look at the Sonet’s specifications for reference:
Specifications |
1.2-litre NA petrol |
1.2-litre turbo-petrol |
1.5-litre diesel |

As per our expectations, it should be priced around Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom) mark and won’t have any direct rivals as such.
