Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the facelifted T-Cross in the overseas markets. For the unknown, the T-Cross is what the Taigun is for us in India, just slightly smaller. So yeah, it’s no surprise that both the SUVs share quite a similar design language. The updated T-Cross also previews certain design touches that could be introduced in the updated Taigun.
For starters, the T-Cross gets a redesigned front-end with a larger front grille, flanking the LED headlamps. Then there are the DRLs, which now extend towards the VW logo, while the bumper has been reprofiled to give it a breath of fresh air. In profile, new designs for the alloys are the only change. Spotting design changes at the rear is also easy as the LED tail lamps now feature an X-motif and it gets a tweaked bumper design as well.
Bits such as the new tail lamps and wheel designs could be offered in the India-spec Taigun, while the front-end could get a bespoke design touch with more chrome.
Step inside the facelifted T-Cross and your eyes will be drawn to the revised centre console, featuring a floating touchscreen infotainment system. The touch slider controls for the AC, gear lever and steering wheel are similar to the Taigun offered here. Volkswagen also says quality of the materials has seen an improvement, and we hope to see that in the Taigun as well.

In terms of features, the T-Cross gets an 8-inch or a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, a digital driver’s display, keyless entry with push button start, multiple airbags, electronic stability control and most importantly, ADAS features. We suspect the last one to be added when the Taigun is facelifted here.
Things underneath the hood are very familiar as the T-Cross gets the 1-litre (offered in two tunes) and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines. Now, these engines get slightly different gearbox options abroad, so we are mentioning the existing India-spec Taigun’s specs as that’s what we’ll be getting here.
So here are the detailed specifications:
1-litre TSI |
1.5-litre TSI |
|
Power (PS) |
115PS |
150PS |
Torque (Nm) |
178Nm |
250Nm |
Transmission Options |
6-speed MT / 6-speed AT |
6-speed MT / 7-speed DSG |
All said and done, it’d be a while before the Taigun gets a facelift in India as it went on sale in India only in 2022. When it comes here, you can expect it to command a premium over the existing Taigun that’s priced at Rs 11.62 lakh (ex-showroom). It will renew its rivalry with the Hyundai Creta, 2023 Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara as well as upcoming Honda Elevate and Citroen C3 Aircross.
