Think Italian and Vespa is one of the first few brands that come to mind. Despite being unapologetically Italian, it’s managed to carve a niche for itself in a cut-throat market like India. So if you’re out to buy one, here’s a detailed price for each model for the month of August 2022:
Model |
Prices (ex-showroom Delhi) |
Rs 1.15 lakh |
Rs 1.29 lakh |
Rs 1.33 lakh |
Rs 1.39 lakh |
Rs 1.42 lakh |
Rs 1.47 lakh |
Rs 1.53 lakh |
Rs 1.55 lakh |
Thankfully, there aren’t any price revisions this month, but there’s no telling when the brand will drop the price bomb.
These Italian scooters have seen their fair share of price hikes in the last couple of years, pushing the cost of their most affordable scooter, the ZX 125, over the 1-lakh rupee mark. In comparison, other retro-style scooters such as the Yamaha Fascino 125 and Suzuki Access 125, which offer more modern features, cost about Rs 30,000-35,000 less. That’s a lot of money if you ask us.
The 150cc space is no different. A segment once dominated by Vespa and Aprilia is witnessing new competition from the Yamaha Aerox 155. Sure, the Aerox is a lot sportier with its bold styling and powerful R-15-derived engine, but it’s competing for the same share of the market.
Vespas may still be the only proper retro-style scooters in India right now, but it could be difficult for it to hold onto this title for too long. Keeway has already entered the market with the Sixties 300i, and it’s only a matter of time before other manufacturers start fighting for a piece of the action.
The good news is that with purchasing power and the demand for more powerful scooters on the rise in India, we may soon see stiff competition in the premium scooter segment.
