Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast has officially confirmed its entry into the Indian market, and it’s coming in with a well-planned strategy. The brand, which showcased the VF3 micro SUV at the 2025 Auto Expo, will begin its India operations with the VF7 electric SUV, followed by the VF6 around Diwali 2025. The VF3, a compact and quirky urban EV, is expected to follow in 2026, making it one of the most awaited launches for budget-conscious EV buyers looking for a smaller urban mobility solution.
VinFast’s entry into India will begin with the launch of the VF7, a premium midsize electric SUV. This will be their flagship offering. Following that, the VF6, a slightly smaller EV aimed at the compact SUV segment, will hit Indian roads.
Only after these models are established in the market will the company introduce the VF3, its smallest and most affordable offering yet. The company has also announced plans to heavily localise the VF3 for India, which will help in keeping costs competitive.
VinFast’s micro SUV, the VF3, is designed with urban practicality in mind. Here’s a quick look at its key dimensions:
Length |
3,190 mm |
Width |
1,679 mm |
Height |
1,622 mm |
Wheelbase |
2,075 mm |
Ground Clearance |
191 mm |
Wheel Size |
16-inches |
With its boxy yet modern design, the VF3 gets a rugged yet funky look, making it stand out among urban EVs. The black cladding around the wheel arches, high ground clearance, and short overhangs hint at a go-anywhere attitude, though it is primarily designed for city use.
The VF3’s cabin is designed for simplicity and efficiency, featuring a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that functions as both the infotainment interface and instrument cluster.
It offers seating for four occupants, optimized for small city trips, and a boot space of 285 litres, which can be expanded with foldable rear seats.
Powering the VF3 is a rear-wheel-drive electric motor paired with a compact battery pack. Here are the details:
Motor Placement |
Rear-wheel drive |
Power Output |
43.5 PS |
Torque |
110 Nm |
Battery Pack |
18.64 kWh |
Claimed Range |
215 km |
Fast Charging |
10 to 70 percent in 36 minutes |
While the power figures may seem modest, the VF3’s lightweight and small size make it an efficient city commuter with enough grunt for everyday use.
VinFast has already announced its plans to establish a manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, where it will assemble CKD (Completely Knocked Down) units.
The VF3 will be one of the models benefitting from heavy localisation, helping bring down costs while catering to India’s price-sensitive market.
Though official pricing is yet to be announced, the VF3 is expected to be positioned in the Rs 10 lakh range, making it an attractive option in the growing budget EV segment. Once launched, it will rival the MG Comet as well as the Vayve Eva.
VinFast is taking a strategic approach to its India entry by first bringing in premium models before launching its most affordable EV. The VF3’s compact size, practical cabin, and efficient powertrain make it an interesting contender for city buyers looking for an affordable and stylish EV. With localisation and a dedicated manufacturing setup in India, the VF3 could be one of the most accessible electric SUVs in the country when it arrives in 2026.
