Taigun scored five stars each for adult as well as child occupant safety.
It comes with ESC, TPMS and ISOFIX child-seat mounts as standard.
Higher-spec variants get six airbags, hill assist and reversing camera.
Taigun retails from Rs 11.75 lakh to Rs 18.7 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Volkswagen Taigun has scored a perfect five-star rating in Global NCAP’s crash tests. Alongside, its platform cousin, the Skoda Kushaq, the subcompact VW SUV managed to bag the top score for both adult and child occupant safety – a feat no other car tested under GNCAP’s ‘Safer Cars for India’ has managed so far.
Moreover, the SUV was tested according to Global NCAP’s revised norms that make it more difficult for cars to get five stars.
The Taigun scored 29.64 points out of 34 for adult occupant protection overall. In the frontal impact test, the protection for the front seat passenger was rated ‘good’ overall. For the driver, the head and upper leg protection was ‘good’, and that for the lower leg and chest was ‘adequate’.
According to the new testing protocol, the Taigun was put through side crash tests with a deformable barrier (to simulate a sideways crash with another car) and a pole. Both tests showed ‘good’ protection for the head and pelvis of the driver and ‘marginal’ protection for the chest.
The standard (dual-airbag) Taigun was put through the front and side impact tests, while the six-airbag variant was put through the sideways pole test.
Importantly, GNCAP concluded that the car’s footwell area and body structure were ‘stable’, meaning it was capable of handling greater loads in a real-world accident.
With impressive compatibility with different brands of child seats, the Taigun was rated 42 out of 49 for child occupant protection. The tests were performed using rear-facing child seats, highlighting the importance of using ISOFIX-mounted child seats for babies and toddlers.
The base Taigun gets government-mandated safety features such as dual front airbags, rear parking sensors and ABS. In addition, it’s equipped with stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat mounts (in the rear outboard seats), a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), multi-collision braking and brake assist (BA). The Taigun comes standard with three-point seatbelts and adjustable head rests for all passengers and these factors were taken into consideration by GNCAP.
Higher and top-spec Taigun variants offer six airbags, a rear parking camera and hill hold assist, alongside numerous tech features and creature comforts.

The latest test results bolster the safety of the made-for-India Taigun and highlight the importance of a well-engineered body structure. With more test results set to be released soon, we hope to see a higher number of Indian cars score top ratings in GNCAP’s assessments.
