Volkswagen names its Kylaq-equivalent subcompact SUV as “Tera” for the Brazil markets
The Tera will most likely be based on the MQB AO IN platform
We expect it to share design elements with the Taigun compact SUV
Expected features include a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment, powered and ventilated seats and 6 standard airbags
It likely will be powered by a 115 PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine
Volkswagen has revealed the name of its Skoda Kylaq equivalent subcompact SUV in Brazil markets, and will be calling it the Volkswagen Tera. We know that the Kylaq will be launched next year in India, and we expect Volkswagen to introduce its own subcompact SUV as well, a little bit later. It has been confirmed that the Kylaq will be based on the MQB AO IN platform and the Tera will most likely be underpinned by the same platform as well.
While VW has not said anything about launching a subcompact SUV in the Indian market, given how they don’t have a product under Rs 10 lakh, and how Skoda is also jumping on to the trend of offering smaller SUVs, we expect that this VW product can hit the Indian market in the coming years. While its details have not been revealed, here’s everything you can expect from from the Tera subcompact SUV:
The Tera subcompact SUV will be under the 4 metre mark in terms of length, making it look slightly smaller (around 250 mm) than the Taigun compact SUV. We expect Volkswagen to introduce it with a muscular and bold look, especially at the front. Based on the design of other VW products in India, we can expect the Tera to have a sleek grille with a chrome strip that connects the LED headlights.
We can expect Volkswagen to offer it with sporty-looking alloy wheels (possibly 17-inch ). We can spot the Tera with a connected tail light setup, similar to that of the Taigun compact SUV. Keen-eyed observers would also notice a roof-mounted spoiler.
The Tera’s dashboard design and layout will most likely be similar to that of the Taigun compact SUV. One can expect it to get a two-spoke steering wheel for a sportier appeal. Higher-spec models will likely get leatherette seats and soft touch padding on the doors.

It has been confirmed that the Kylaq will be introduced with ventilated front seats, powered driver seats and 6 airbags as standard. The aforementioned features will most likely make their way to the Tera as well.
Other top expected features on board include a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, a wireless phone charger, a single-pane sunroof, reverse parking camera with sensors and cruise control.
The Tera will most probably be powered by a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine which makes 115 PS and 178 Nm. This engine will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
If and when launched in India, the VW Tera will likely be priced from around Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). Its India rivals will include the Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Tata Nexon.
