“If you ask any child to draw a car, they’ll draw a red one.” This line was quoted by none other than Enzo Ferrari himself. Sure, it sounds a bit narcissistic, and he was known for his eccentric and condescending behavior, but that doesn’t take away the greatness achieved by the man who’s responsible for Ferrari’s image today. And that superiority complex (also responsible for creation of the Lamborghini brand) isn’t just born out of thin air, but hardships and heartbreaks.
Adam Driver playing Enzo Ferrari in the movie
That is what the Ferrari movie is going to be about – how Enzo started from scratch and created one of the most prestigious car brands known to the world. The first trailer has just been released and it compiles a dramatic montage with a single dialogue line only coming towards the end of it. And what a dialogue it was – again – showcasing his not-so-pleasing attitude, but also depicting his strive for success.
Based on the 1991 book by Brock Yates, “Enzo Ferrari: The Man, The Cars, The Races, The Machine,” the movie’s screenplay is by Mann and Troy Kennedy Martin. Adam Driver takes on the role of the big man, while Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, and Gabriel Leone back him up as ensemble cast. The man behind the camera is Michael Mann, the director also responsible for the iconic street shootout scene in the movie ‘Heat.’
The movie will shine light on the hardships of the Ferrari brand, which was on the verge of bankruptcy around the 1950s, along with a dive into the personal life of Enzo Ferrari, which was also in shambles at the time. The trailer doesn’t give anything away, but does set the mood which seems to include a lot of emotion, passion, and the want and need to win when you drive a Ferrari. You can watch it for yourself below:
Man, the cars sound really good as well, don’t they? Can’t comprehend how the experience will be inside an actual theater! Guess we’ll just have to wait until Christmas, because that’s when this movie is going to hit the big screen.
