The Hyundai Verna had made a compelling case for itself against the likes of the VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia even before its crash test safety ratings were out. That was the only major thorn in its side, considering Hyundais hadn’t fared particularly well in crash test safety ratings on previous occasions. But that doubt has now been dispatched with the latest result from Global NCAP, where the Verna scored a full 5-star rating.
This is a big stepping stone in Hyundai India’s journey as the Verna is now the first made-in-India Hyundai to get Global NCAP's highest crash safety rating. With 5 stars in both adult and child occupant safety, Verna is the safest Hyundai vehicle in India at the moment.

Our chief editor, Ameya Dandekar, had the chance to get up close and personal with the skeleton of the Hyundai Verna and you can watch him in the reel below to grasp what makes the Verna a 5-star scorer:
Regardless of the impressive safety rating, the Verna’s body shell has been rated unstable, while the Slavia and Virtus have a stable rating for their footwell and body shell. As a result, the Skoda and VW compact sedans have a slight advantage over the Hyundai. We’ve also compared their points for adult and child protection scores below to show that the European models are a bit superior in adult occupant protection:

As you can see, the variation between the scores is marginal. The more important takeaway here is the fact that we are getting more and more 5-star rated made-in-India cars. That reflects not only the commitment for safer cars from a carmaker’s perspective but also India’s capability to produce top-notch vehicles. We hope that Bharat NCAP further pushes more carmakers for safer cars, for the sake of safer mobility.
