Performance SUVs weren’t really a thing until recently. As the preference started tilting towards big cars with road presence and ground clearance, big carmakers started to cash in on that preference; Lamborghini being one of the first ones with the Urus SUV. Fast forward to today, and almost every luxury carmaker has a performance oriented SUV in their lineup.
But did you ever wonder which one is the quickest? We asked a few bystanders and everyone had a different answer, but none of them were correct. Watch this reel below to find out the quickest SUV on sale in India currently:
Yup, Lotus has disrupted and destroyed the segment with its Eletre marking the debut of the brand into the Indian market. The SUV packs some serious performance, with the top-spec Eletre R producing 905PS and 985Nm. It can do a claimed 0-100kmph sprint in just 2.95 seconds, which is in the same ballpark as sports cars like the Mclaren 750s, which does the same in 2.8 seconds (claimed). For reference, the Urus Performante takes 3.3 seconds and the Audi RS Q8 takes 3.8 seconds.

You can watch this second reel below to see what time we managed to do in the real world:
Seems like electrification really is taking over, with the Eletre beating all the rest of its competition that pack twin-turbocharged V8 engines. Even the V12-powered Ferrari Purosangue, which is yet to launch in India, claims 3.3 seconds for a 0-100kmph sprint.

The Eletre will be followed by the launch of the Emira sports car from Lotus, likely sometime in the first half of 2025. Prices for the only current Lotus car in India range between Rs 2.55 crore and Rs 2.99 crore (ex-showroom). It rivals the likes of the Audi RS Q8, Lamborghini Urus and BMW XM and is a premium alternative to the Jaguar I-Pace and BMW iX.
