If you want a Maruti Suzuki that can venture over broken terrain with drive sent to all four wheels, your options are limited to two cars: the Jimny and Grand Vitara. The former is a four-wheel-drive off-roader, while the latter is an all-wheel-drive family-oriented compact SUV. And in this video, we see how they compare over challenging obstacles, where you’d struggle to walk, let alone drive. 

We put both the Maruti Grand Vitara and Jimny through multiple obstacles, including dips, climbs, ruts, articulation ditches, and really slippery terrain as well. Now, it’s known that the Jimny is the better off-roader here and much much more capable than the Grand Vitara, despite the latter’s inclusion of all-wheel-drive. And yet, the Grand Vitara can surprise you with just how much it can do!

Both models get 1.5-litre petrol engines making a nearly identical 105PS. However the Jimny uses the brand’s older K15B engine, with four-wheel-drive (and a low-range transfer case). On the other hand, the Grand Vitara gets the newer-generation K15C engine, paired with an all-wheel-drive system. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is priced from Rs 12.74 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Grand Vitara starts from Rs 10.7 lakh (ex-showroom). The cutesy off-roader locks horns with the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. On the other hand, the compact SUV goes up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
