2023 Hyundai Verna estate variant spied testing abroad.
Wagon version seems to sit higher than the standard sedan version.
Sports styling elements similar to the normal Verna.
India will only get the sedan bodystyle.
We’ve always known the Hyundai Verna as a sedan. To think of it in any other shape or form would be absurd, but then came this spy shot. No, it's not a whole new model being tested. Underneath the covers is actually what seems like the estate version of the new generation Hyundai Verna, which is due for launch in India on March 21.
Yeah, we wouldn't have believed it either if someone came to us and said there is a Verna in a wagon body style somewhere in existence. But apparently, it is true, as evidenced by these spy shots. The papped vehicle was draped heavily in camouflage; however, its headlights, large grille and the connected LED DRL strip are all similar to the upcoming model.
One noticeable difference apart from the obvious rear end is the stance of the vehicle, which seems to sit higher than the standard sedan. The roofline, which starts to slope down strongly from the C-pillar in the standard vehicle, holds its ground in the estate and floats downwards rather leniently before merging with the rear windshield.
The stance at the rear is upright, and the connected taillight setup seems to be similar to the standard Verna as well.
Sadly, this is more likely than not being tested out only for other markets. Granted, it's not like wagons aren’t ever made just for the Indian market, because we did get quite a few in the past (Skoda Octavia Combi, Tata Indigo Marina, and more). But the country never really received a wagon or an estate with open arms, with bad sales eroding any hopes for future models.

And while this might come as sad news for some, the standard Verna sedan, which is India bound on March 21 in its all-new avatar, brings a lot of unseen goodies of its own to the table. It even gets a more powerful engine than before, poised to become the segment benchmark with its 160PS upon launch. Head over to our latest story to know all about it.

We expect Hyundai to give the new Verna 2023 a starting price of around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It’ll revive its fight in the compact sedan segment with rivals like the Skoda Slavia, VW Virtus, Honda City, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
