The Wuling Air EV, whose launch has been confirmed in India, will make its way to the country in 2023 as an MG product. When introduced, it’ll become MG’s first mass market EV here and will be conferred the title of the smallest EV in the country. Here are the top five things you need to know about the battery-powered car:
The design is boxy, but with splashes of modern elements all-around. A strip of LED runs across the EV’s nose connecting with the side mirrors and doubles up as turn indicators. The headlights rest just above the bumper which is finished in black, offering a contrast to the body hue.

The rear has an upright back glass with an LED strip beneath spanning its width. Going down from the strip, the body curves a bit to the rear bumper. As at the front, the tail lamps are placed right above the rear bumper. Expect a few changes that could be made to the MG version when it debuts here.
Mini might be the most befitting term here as the Air EV is genuinely a small car made for urban chores. Internationally, the Air EV is available in a two-door, four-seater (depending on the variant) iteration, but even the latter spans just 2974mm length-wise. To put things in perspective, that’s almost 800mm less than the Tata Tiago EV, which currently is the smallest EV in the country. Mini indeed.

The Air EV gets two lithium ferro-phosphate battery options in markets abroad: a 17.3kWh and 26.7kWh battery pack. The former is good for a range of up to 200km, while the latter offers 300km on a single charge. Both are paired to a 41PS electric motor which sends power to the rear wheels.
The Air EV might be an entry-level EV from MG, but is not short on creature comforts. The list of features includes dual 10.25-inch screens for the driver’s instrumentation, synthetic leather seats, connected car tech, steering mounted controls, climate control and keyless entry. It is even sorted on the safety front with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and a rear parking camera.
The MG Air EV, with its minimalistic design and size, won’t have any immediate competitors in the country. But, it is expected to start from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards, putting it in contention with the Tiago EV.
