The Japanese know their business when it comes to automobiles, and the other thing they are incredible at is how to make their vehicles look stunning. Case in point: just LOOK at the Yamaha XSR900 GP, a modern retro cafe racer…that’s so gorgeous it’ll make you drool!
But of course, this is JDM we are talking about, so the word “enough” is not in their dictionary. Hence, Yamaha has made the drip of the XSR even more classic by introducing new fairing kits. This limited-edition fairing kit pays homage to Yamaha’s iconic racer from the 1980s, namely the Yamaha RD500.
The fairing has a sleek yet angular design, enough to sharpen some blades on it. The coolest thing on this kit has to be the entire headlight and visor section that gets a curvy outline, with a very small LED projector headlight: neat and retro, and offering a similar appeal as the track bikes.
Interestingly, of the two colour options (red/white and red/white/blue) on the fairing kits, the red/white one is the perfect replica of the RD500 and RZ500R's Speedblock paint scheme. A little bit of geek history knowledge, the RD500 was an icon of a motorcycle, famous for its 499cc two-stroke V4 screamer engine. It made 86.8PS and was built for one thing only: crazy performance!

Now, the kits are available in Japan for a price of 330,000 Japanese Yen, or around Rs 1.73 lakh. That’s no doubt a heavy price for just a fairing, but you know what they say: beauty doesn’t come cheap! And… no points for guessing that neither the bike nor the kits will be coming to India. WHY Yamaha why? (sad noises)
