You’ll Soon Have To Pay More For The Most Affordable Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson’s most affordable offering, the X440, will soon become more expensive, with Hero MotoCorp announcing a Rs 10,500 hike on the introductory prices of all the variants of the roadster. Here are the variant-wise prices of the X440 after the price increase:

The Harley-Davidson X440 was launched with an introductory price of Rs 2,29,000 (ex-showroom) and it can be booked for Rs 5,000. But that window will only remain open till August 3, post which the bike will be available at the increased prices.

When the Harley-Davidson X440 was launched on July 3, 2023, the introductory price tag was pretty competitive for what was offered. However, Harley’s joy was short-lived, as Triumph one-upped the X440 with its insane introductory price tag of Rs 2,23,000 for the first 10,000 customers. Even the Rs 2,33,000 post-introductory price tag is extremely competitive for a powerful, feature-laden 400cc liquid-cooled motorcycle.  

So, with the Rs 10,500 premium over the introductory prices, the top-spec S and the mid-level Vivid variants are now Rs 46,500 and Rs 26,000 costlier than the Speed 400. This will make it tougher than before for Harley-Davidson to compete with the Triumph in terms of sales, as affordability has been the USP of these bikes from day one. That said, the X440 is designed to appeal to buyers looking to experience the Harley lifestyle within a budget, so we reckon it will still have its own niche despite the price hike. Also, its rival, the QJ SRC500 is cheaper than the X440’s S-variant by Rs 10,500. 

All in all, it’ll be really interesting to see how the price increase will impact the customer response that Harley-Davison will get for its most affordable offering in the Indian market.
